The story of musicians Joan Jett, Cherie Currie and Sandy West and their 70's all-female rock band The Runaways. In 1975, San Fernando Valley teen Joan Larkin reinvents herself as Joan Jett, a guitarist who wanted to form an all-girl punk band. She pitched Kim Fowley, who pairs her with a drummer and then searches for a pretty face and finds Cherie Currie, 15 years old, the perfect jail bait image and a good voice. Two others round out the band, "The Runaways." Fowley signs them to Mercury Records and takes them off to Japan. Fowley puts Cherie out in front for the publicity, and jealousies arises. Without adult supervision, she's soon strung out on pills and vodka.
