The Fighter is the true story of two brothers who come together to train for a historic title bout The story plays out in Lowell, Mass, where Dicky was once went the distance with the world champion Sugar Ray Leonard. After losing the fight Dicky fell on hard times. His boxing days are behind him and he has turned to drug abuse. Micky, the younger brother has become a fighter and the family's new hope for a champion. But Micky's career is failing and he loses fight after punishing fight. Micky's mother manages his career and Dicky is his unreliable trainer. When Micky's latest fight nearly kills him, his new girlfriend Charlene convinces him to split with his family. Micky gets the chance at a shot for the World Championship. But his dysfunctional family reenters his life. When Micky and Dicky reunited it's a comeback for the brothers, the family, and the city they come from. Micky becomes the World Champion, a Hall of Fame legend, and the new "Pride of Lowell".
