Tom Collier (Leslie Howard) has a wonderful relationship with Daisy (Ann Harding). but instead of marrying Daisy he marries Cecella (Myrna Loy) because she is more socially acceptable. After the marriage, Tom is miserable and becomes bored with the social scene and the obligations of his life. He publishes books that will sell, not books that he wants to write. Even worse, he has employed his old friend as his butler and Cecelia wants him out of the picture and insists that Tom fires him. Tom decides to triy to get Daisy back and renew the feelings that he once felt, but Daisy leaves to protect both of them.
