Synopsis...
It's the summer of 1994, and the streets of New York are pulsing with hip-hop and wafting with the sweet aroma of marijuana--but change is in the air. The newly-inaugurated mayor, Rudy Giuliani, is beginning to implement his anti-fun initiatives against "crimes" like noisy portable radios, graffiti and public drunkenness. Set against this backdrop, Luke Shapiro spends his last summer before college selling dope throughout New York City, trading it with his shrink for therapy, while crushing on his step-daughter.    hide

This is another sleeper movie for the summer!!! Sleeper, meaning, under the radar of the mainstream. The creators definitely had Rap music and Hiphop on their mind when making this film based on the summer of '94, in New York. It was very reminiscent of growing up to the sounds and situations back then. I felt their was a little too much focus on drug use versus character building. The leading role, played by Josh Peck, seemed a little one dimensional, but he still was able to respect the times. Decent performances from Method Man, Famke Janssen, and even a surprisingly good job by Mary-Kate Olsen. However, it was Ben Kingsley's great performance that will be the most rememberable. I know he's a good actor, but he continues to surprise me. Oscar maybe? We'll see!! I recommend checking this out to anyone who is an early '90's Rap music fan or Graduated High School back in those days - you'll like it!!
