They just added 3D projection to this theater, and it has made watching movies there a ton of fun. We saw GRAVITY there over the weekend, and in 3D it was awesome.
It was a few bucks more expensive, but well worth it.
This theater is a gem in Stowe and it will be sorely missed when it's not around. The owners work the ticket and concession stand, they know every kid in town who tries to sneak into an "R" movie when they aren't old enough. The picture and sound is secondary to the community service this theater offers. In addition to buying my tickets, I try to spend $10-15 dollars to keep this gem alive and I thank any tourist or community member who does the same.
We go to stow every year for our anniversary and every year we enjoy a movie here. This year we watched total recall and the born legacy. They might not play 3d or have the newest projectors but we LOVE the intimate feel and charm. Its Stow VT, if you want your eyeballs to pop or giant chairs go to an I-max, Im 6'1 330lbs and am always quite comfortable. If you want to see a movie at a fair price in a GREAT atmosphere this is the place. To the basher of the "(blond haired lady)", there is a section for drinkers and another for non-drinkers and I have never had anyone who was too loud or kicked my chair while there.
Went here on a Saturday night, had no cash on me, when I tried to pay with a credit card, they said, "We don't take credit cards!" RIDICULOUS!!!
I can charge a $2.00 item in a drug store on a card. This place is a rip-off. They also charge more than anywhere for admission.
Ha! One of the previous reviewers (blonde haired lady) must be the owner of the theater...."Get some popcorn or candy and sit back and enjoy the show. They add matinees on rainy days, too."....Geez lady, are they working on a cure for cancer too?
This place would NOT survive in a city with other theaters in competition. When I went there, I thought the staff were wooden, bored and SLOW!! And why do they serve beer and wine? This loosens people up and they forget about keeping quite and kicking the backs of your chair. Speaking of chairs, airplanes have more room than this place.
I would rather make the 50 minute drive to Burlington.
This is one of my favorite theaters of all time! I agree that the projection tech is not the most up-to-date (they never show films in 3D, for example), but the place certainly makes up for it in service and charm. I especially love that we can sit down with coffee, beer or c***tails and that half-way through the film someone comes by to quietly ask if we'd like a refill.
We try to visit every time we come to Stowe. A nice family runs the theater and I like the intimate size. Get some popcorn or candy and sit back and enjoy the show. They add matinees on rainy days, too.
Stowe Cinema is our favorite cinema. The sound is great, the projection quality is just fine, the seats comfortable and the owners are a joy to chat with. Real butter on the popcorn and a special section for those that want a c***tail with their movie.
Everything is great up until you actually watch the movie. Easy-to-access parking lot on Stowe's beautifulreport this review for TOS violationmercial strip; quaint, attractive lobby with a friendly staff who hand you old-fashioned tickets like you're at a State Fair; adequate seating in an old-fashioned theater with a section in the back where they serve drinks and snacks. Here's the problem: the "old-fashioned" charm stops the moment the small, antiquated screen lights up and you realize you've seen clearer resolution on an airplane. But I don't want to be too cranky - it's a really nice atmosphere and fun place to watch a movie, as long as you're not expecting your eyeballs to pop.
