The people on here complaining about this theater are incredibly high maintenence. I've been goin to this theater for 15 years now and it has never disappointed. the ticket prices aren't any higher than any other theaters in America and neither is the food. it is laughable that someone would complain about commercials before the show when literally evey movie ive ever gone to has done the exact same thing, plus all the commercials are previews for possible good movies to see in the future. and to say that the theater is too loud? you watch movies in a theater to get the big screen and the surround sound. that is the movie experience. if you have a problem with that then wait till the movies come out on dvd and moniter the sound in the comfort of your own living room where people like you belong ;) i absolutely love this place and the service it provides. i go there to see all the new movies

This thread needs to be moderated for hate speech. "F-you is NOT dialogue it is diatribe. DELETE THOSE OFFENSIVE POSTS. As for this theatre- it is the very last theatre I would go to in Santa Cruz- ONLY if the film is not available elsewhere or if someone gave me a gift card. I would NEVER spend my own money to support it. The blue-purple lighting in the lobby makes me nauseous. The admission prices are far more than I can afford- especially considering that the movies themselves are almost never worth the cost of admission. Patrons are clueless RE: cellphones & talking during previews and the film itself- just shockingly rude really- completely destroying the moviegoing experience. Management is not responsive to complaints and suggestions. The assaultive barrage of commercial CRAP before the films is patently offensive. I used to go to the movies to GET AWAY from the incessant commercial messages on TV. I absolutely CAN'T STAND being forced to sit and be exposed to this offensive garbage- and to PAY for the privilege? Insane! If I wait in the queazy lobby until the film starts to avoid this insult, good seats may be all taken, so we are forced to subject ourselves to this crap. And the volume? INSANELY RIDICULOUSLY ALMOST COMICALLY LOUD. I went to see the STAR TREK film there because there was no alternative. I was the ONLY person in the theatre (too expensive for the average American now? YES!) but I had to get up and leave as soon as the film started because it was so loud it hurt my ears! You would have thought I was at a Megadeath concert. This theatre sucks!

I appreciate that they brought to Santa Cruz CA D'Souza's movie
"2016: Obama's America" so that I could see it. No other theater in town did.

Last year, they brought Metropolitan operas, which was very memorable, and which made history come alive.

I even appreciated that they had bottled water from a fridge which is a relatively healthy choice for a movie theater.

And the process worked so that I could register and login here to comment. (Don't take it for granted.)

Gone are the days when you could quietly listen to music in a darkened theater before a movie. Now you are assaulted with commercials and 'infotainment' pieces instead, and this theater is one of the worst offenders in Santa Cruz

Personally I love this theater. Sure its expensive but what modern theater isn't? The price of admission is the same here as anywhere else in Santa Cruz and they just started doing 6 dollar movie Tuesdays which is awesome! Also for anyone getting mad at people sneaking in food and texting - what do you expect? A thorough pat down and body scan for everyone who walks in the door to make sure little Timmy didn't bring in candy or a phone? Now THATS a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Concessions are way too expensive (so people sneak in outside, sometimes smelly food; people who check cell phones, text, and talk during the movie are too numerous and management does not care; yes, some seats are in disrepair. And, to the guy from PA: Girl from PA's opinion is as valid as anyone else's, including yours.

Cinema 9 is a great theatre.
    Very kind employees, clean rarely
    are the floors sticky.
If you don't like potheads or if you lack compassion
for homeless people then what's the point of going
to Santa Cruz? Please stay away go to a sterile mall.
We Santa Cruzans don't want hateful, uptight losers
downtown. I'll take a poor kind person (like Jesus)
    over an uptight hater anyday.
