User reviews on Palace Theater - Lake Placid
I admitted that most of the staff in the theater were friendly and helpful. However, there is one rude staff, an old man with a bad temper, whom i will never forget. My friend and I were foreigners, we came to lake placid for vacations. This vintage theater got our attention and we went to see the movie, the giver. We picked a back seat for a broader view, and when the film started the curtain in the entrance was not closed. The light coming from outside was disturbing us, and we thought the staff forgot to close the curtain.( why would anyone leaves the curtain open with light coming in in a movie room?) So my friend closed the curtain, and now this rude man came. He walked straight to us and shouted in our face:" Do not close the curtain, if you do it again, you are out of here!" We were shocked by this rude man, because I've traveled a lot of countries, even in the least developed country, I was not treated like this. And today in the united states of america, one of the most developed country, because of this rude and proud from nowhere old man, I received the worst service. We are not looking for troubles, but we would really like the theater to give us a proper explanation for his mad behavior. So my advice is, if you wanna put your self down just to experience the vintage theater, go for it and good luck. However, there is definitely no next time for us. If they don't change anything with their service, I don't know how they could then survive with future competition.
This is my favourite cinema!!I live in Mtl (we even have VIP cinemas and such), and the Palace Theater is by far my favourite! The prices are very low and the atmosphere very enjoyable. Try it and see for yourself!!
I have lived in lake placid now for almost 4 years and i can say having lived in a big city before that compared to the huge movie chains this place is a breath of fresh air. The prices are super low 7 dollars to get into a movie and sodas candy and pop corn are all within 2-4 dollars. Its an old building that still has its "Old" Time charm. With that said it is a small building so naturally before the shows a line can form but thats to be expected and everytime ive been there everything has moved rather smoothly. I have never had a single bad experience. So if your looking for a nice night out with the family this is definetly a place you do not want to miss
Oh, where to begin with the Palace Theater. Perhaps the fact that you can't even find movie times online says enough. For any movie experience, you can expect to wait on line for at least 20 minutes, as all shows start at the same time and they do not sell tickets more than 30 minutes in advance (and certainly not online), then be prepared to pay cash because that's all they take.
The theater is a prime example of a small town business that survives only because of a complete lack of competition. Palace Theater, please join us in the 21st century. Potential patrons, steel yourself for the incredibly frustrating experience of trying to see a movie in this tiny town.
Okay so here is our story. We go to see The Rum Diary and the lady at the counter says "where is ur note" and me and friend 10 and 12 being locals do this often giving the lady my mothers phone #. Then we asked to use the phone and said no. We ran around all night to get the movie and the pissy lady behind the counter says no...
The Palace Theater in Lake Placid is one of the great treasures of northern New York. Although it has been divided, as most older theaters have been, into four different "viewing rooms", the largest of these, Theater 1, occupies the largest space. In it, one can imagine the heyday of the movie theater: Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray seem to be waiting somewhere in the wings.
The Palace is the jewel of Main Street. The marquee lights illuminate the friendly space below, where there are always a few people looking at the posters. Inside, the staff are very welcoming and the popcorn stand has prices you won't see at any other theater: reasonable prices. You can see a movie and have popcorn and a soda for $8.
It's a grand old theater, and if you're in Lake Placid, it's not to be missed.
