...given one must allow for the "foreign" feel of a Foreign film "An Education" passes class (not gas). It is a coherant Movie, taking place in 1961 Britian, satisfying with a beginning, middle and end. The Film is engaging enough and easy to follow. Jenny, our bright, soon to be 17 year old Cello player, abandons school for the romance and charm of an older fellow. He is likable and convincing even to her careful parents. However, plans and dreams ultimately unravel and Jenny is forced to humbly reapproach important people in her life essentially asking forgiveness and a second chance. Dialogue and script is above average and Jenny's experience is entirely believable. She is a smart girl, just caught up in growing up. The jazz and pop soundtrack is very worthwhile, especially given the early year of 1961....(Mel Torme, Brenda Lee, etc.). There is early buzz for an Oscar nomination though a nomination should be the summit this movie acheives. A worthy film earning 3 stars.
