User reviews on AMC Del Amo 18
this theater is safe. that fool that wrote the first review is trippin. EVERY movie theater has problems with teenagers sometimes. its a movie theater at all mall, what do you expect.
Everyone is correct! (How can that be?) Everyone has their own truths, it's what they see as witnesses. I live across the street from the "New" AMC Theaters at the Del Amo Mall.
During construction of the new section that involved demolition of the old Montgomery Wards building and the rest of the two story structure, we (those of us who live across the street) had to endure what seemed like endless lines of loud trucks rolling up & down Carson Street all through the night for nearly two years. It was a relief when the new addition was finally completed and some of the tenants were moved in.
Just like when all things are brand new, people from all over the place would arrive to see the new things that were not there before. It's a normal reaction for everyone. What is not taken into account is that it also attracts both, the good AND the bad behavior types. If you will notice, through history, when school starts in late Summer, during Spring Break, near the start of Summer when school's out, we will always have the kinds of trouble one of the Writers wrote they had experienced.
Even the Torrance Police has a schedule pre-determined a year in advance to anticipate trouble spots and their "Timings." According to the police, they always question those who were arrested as to WHY they would come all the way over to Torrance from places as far away as Orange County & Riverside County. The most common response was that they thought they could easily get away with it or that others would merely stand by and refuse to act against them - to stop them. Especially High School Students... if they get into trouble, the Parents are pursued for recourse. They are hit hard in the wallet and that stings the most.
As new construction occurs, new technology is created & presented most cost effectively. For example, the Del Amo Mall is heavily fortified with mini-cameras. Even if you try looking for them, you can not find them. There was one Merchant who was asked if he could stand in front of where one of those cameras were, and he still could not see it; even from 10 inches away! He had to have it actually pointed out from one inch away, and still says "There's A Camera Right Here?!"
If you think those security officers standing on those two wheeled Sedwicks machines are NOT watching you... think again. Camera images are piped to them so that they see everything you are doing. So if you spot a security officer appearing to be gazing out into the distance - he's actually watching somebody on camera (who may be somewhere behind him), maybe watching you looking at him.
Have you ever wondered why some unfortunate soul was having them & their car searched by a Torrance Police Car right in the middle of the Del Amo parking lot? Cameras! They were followed under suspicion and even their license plates were documented on camera.
So anyone who wants to do a crime in Torrance (especially at the Del Amo Mall), try driving in with your car's license plates covered with a thick towel to keep the cameras from taking pictures of your plates. That way, the cops won't know who you are.... Good Luck!
Honestly, the long story that is described below could happen at most any theaters these days, which is the real outrage. One time I went, the ushers actually threw out a guy who was disturbing the audience (I think there were MAYBE a dozen of us in there!) Thats pretty rare. Nice new facility and decent projection and sound (another rarity) and the seats were comfy. Decent parking and service.
the theater is really nice. dont believe the other guy who reviewed it. its really clean, very well made, and no worse than any other theater around.
DON'T GO TO THIS THEATRE!!!! YOUR CHILDREN ARE NOT SAFE!!!! MANAGEMENT MAY BE ON DRUGS!!!
I was incredibly disappointed by the management at the AMC Del Amo Mall and will never return to the establishment. I went to see the Dark Knight at the AMC Del Amo Mall yesterday at midnight (7/18/08 at 12am) with friends. A young lady and her niece who was in line with me about an hour before the show sat in the row in front of me and laid their jackets over 3 seats to reserve the spots.
The lady went to get her friend and left her niece, who I later heard was 14, to keep the seats. Within a minute, 2 men and a woman (older teenagers maybe) came up to the young girl and ordered her to move. She said no and they began using profanities, picked up the jackets and threw them in the young girls face, the girl obviously scared got up from the seat. Just as she started to walk away her aunt and the aunt's friend were walking up. They asked the teens (i think) why they cursed and threw the jackets at a child. The teens said there was no reserving seats and continued their horrible behavior.
What truly shocked me was the fact that the lady found 2 different managers to come over and talk to the teens, for a second, but they did nothing. I heard him tell the lady that he did not want to disturb the teens movie experience and offered her seats that were spread between 2 theatres. The teens were now being rewarded for acting like delinquents. Even though I said I saw what happened the manager (possibly on drugs) said it was her word against the teens and looked annoyed that she was even complaining.
When I say what management did was horrible I mean it. I would have walked out right then but the people I came with really wanted to see the movie.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS THEATRE!!!!!
GO TO ROLLING HILLS AMC ITS DOWN THE STREET AND SAFER IF YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT!!!!!
