Who was asking for this movie? Seriously, who? Do most kids know who Yogi Bear is these days? Do they care? When the first question you have in your head when someone mentions a movie is Why?, you know you're in trouble.
As with most kids films today that aren't animated, the plot of this film is incredibly simplistic. Yogi and Boo Boo steal picnic baskets from visitors of Jellystone National Park, much to the chagrin of Ranger Smith (played by TV's Tom Cavanagh, who seems to be channeling his inner TV actor). They need to come together when the mayor of the small town Jellystone lies in tries to sell the park to pay off the city's debts.
Let's put aside the illogic of the mayor of a small town trying to sell off parts of a national park. Everything about this film is cartoony, especially the human actors (weren't expecting that were you?). Worse, it's just not fun or funny. I know it's a "kid's" film, and I'm going to get people on here who will say, "you're not a kid, so you don't get it." If that's the case, why do I get movies like Toy Story 3 or How To Train Your Dragon? And maybe you just have lowered expectations for your kids. If so, feel free to take them to see this movie. I'm sure they'll love the water skis and baskets flying off the screen at them.
