I'm really disappointed in Jen Anniston. This movie was a huge waste of money/time! I'm all for stupid/gross humor, but this movie contained none! The best part was the outtakes at the end:( the only reason I gave one star is because I was forced to!
Don't waste your money! I was a Jennifer Anistan fan but this movie sucked. I realized from this movie that Jennifer is getting older, because she didn't look very good in this film.
Wanderlust is one of those movies that, as someone who enjoys gross comedies, I have to admire. Writer/director David Wain's fish out of water film throws out as many gross jokes as it possibly can in its run time. It's like watching a stand-up comedian trying out jokes. The jokes that are funny are very funny, and the ones that sink, you still have to admire a guy who's willing to try them out. Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston play George and Linda, a miserable couple living in a micro-loft in New York, going through the motions of a miserable job and an unfulfilled life. When the loss of said job forces them out, they make their way down to Atlanta to live with George's "more successful" brother and his horrible wife. On the way, they end up at an idyllic commune, where these two uptight individuals are confronted by a group of peace and love hippies. Rudd and Aniston play to their strengths here. They're straight arrows who get wide eyed as we are when confronted with these new people and their sometimes bizzare ways. The supporting cast is just as good, as all of them are willing to go as far as Wain needs them to go for the joke. Again, some of these jokes go WAY beyond good taste, but the movie is good because of that. It takes risks, and most of the time, those risks are worth it.
The film was alright and if you are looking for a light comedy then you might want to see it, however I do not think it is worth the price of the movie ticket and I think you will be better off renting it. The film has some wonderful moments but there are not enough of them to sustain interest for almost 2 hours. There are many wacky moments in the film but it feels forced and by the end of the film it becomes a bit too weird and too silly. The characters in the film are wacky and eccentric and the main couple is supposed to be very different from those characters but they do not seem that different maybe because we do not get to know them in their natural environment (they embark on their journey very early on). Aniston is disappointing in this film and I feel that she has played this role million times before, Rudd is good as he always is. Overall, I smiled a lot throughout this film but I did not laugh once.
I actually liked this film and if you want to have a good time then I suggest you see this film in the theaters. I think the film was fun and interesting and I loved the characters in it. I think the film benefited largely from a wonderful cast. I love Paul Rudd and I pretty much see anything he is in, I thought Jeniffer Aniston and Rudd had a great chemistry together and it is great to see Aniston play funny characters, she has a great comedic timing. The rest of the cast was very good as well and it was a true pleasure to watch them do their thing. Overall, I was entertained buy this film and it was also sweet so I recommend seeing it in the theaters.
