Stalingrad Movie Reviews

I love history, I majored in history in college and I read history books for fun. I was quite excited to see this film, because I have read a lot about the battle that the film portrays. Well, I can’t say that I liked this film because it had a lot of major flaws but it was pretty spectacular visually and I thought that the acting was very good as well. The story has a lot of holes in it and it does not make sense quite often but i appreciated the effort of the director anyway. The film could have done without the heavy romantic overtones and the history itself was not precise, however, the film worked on the emotional level.
The trailer of this film looked sick and I was interested to see how the Russian do big budget over the top movies. Well, I have to say that the Russian did pretty good and they definitely showed that they can do big and bold. The story had some flaws but it was quite powerful emotionally and spectacular visually. We saw the film in 3D and I think that it was worth the extra cash. The film is definitely very Russian in a lot of ways and I did not mind it, it was interesting to see a big budget film that wasn’t made in Hollywood.
I did not like this movie and i do not recommend seeing it on the big screen. My Russian boyfriend dragged me to see this movie and I wish I put my foot down and said no. Anyway, the film was overblown, melodramatic, and the story wasn’t good, it was all about special effects and big spectacle. I actually found it to be quite offensive, given that the film turns one of the bloodiest battles of the WWII into a special-effects-enhanced blockbuster. My boyfriend seemed to like the film and he said that he was proud that Russians made such a big and epic film but I wish they paid more attention to the screenplay instead of focusing so much on the special effects.
I was quite excited to see this film and dragged my friend to see it with me. I am sad to say that I was disappointed with this film and I do not think it is worth seeing on the big screen. I can not deny that the movie looked quite spectacular visually but it was otherwise completely empty inside. The screenplay was very flawed and the makers of this film should have paid more attention to that instead of focusing only on the special effects-enhanced spectacle. I thought the film was quite shallow and contrived, but in the same time there were interesting moments that taught me a thing or two about Russian culture. Overall, I do not think it is worth seeing it on the big screen, but you might enjoy it at the comfort of your home.
