I loved the beauty of the photography in Iceland, and Greenland so much so I went to see it twice. The story was light -hearted. I enjoyed the slow close-ups of the characters - looking deep into their eyes and hearts. I will buy this movie to watch again at home. Loved the singing and the slow pace with a few fast paced scenes in between.
If you take the movie for what it is, it will give a beautiful experience. I was very much surprised by this movie despite the thin premise. Ben Stiller finally breaks out of the comedy genre in a real way here, you forget his Meet the Parents days within minutes. The fact that after a while you discover that Walter's daydreaming does in fact become his fearless reality is pretty touching. Beautifully filmed with great music. Wonderful capable supporting performances from Kristin Wiig and Adam Scott. It would have great to see Ben's mom Anne Meara in the mom role here.
I am sorry to disagree with those who gave it any positives. Listing of Sean Penn who only appeared briefly was a gimmic to get his fans. People where walking out as the movie went no-where. As luck would have it, Original movie with Danny Kaye was on TV when I arrived home That was
4 STARS. I guess if they had not used the same title in the newer version I might not have been so disappointed. I thought that this was just an updated remake. NO-WAY-JOSE. Save your money, and see something good. BY the way, I usually like Ben Stiller son of the wonderful Jerry Stiller & Ann Mera
This was a really good movie for kids. Not bad for adults, but better for kids. My 9-year-old loved it. The main character daydreams a lot, something kids tend to do. Also, the story was halfway decent. If you want a movie to take the kids to, this is it. However, I would suggest that kids under 8 not see it, as they won't be old enough to piece the story together. Any kid 8 or older will love this movie.
I was really hoping that this film is going to be good. The trailers looked good and I am a fan of Kristen Wiig and Ben Stiller. Unfortunately the film was quite disappointing and I do not recommend seeing it on the big screen. The film was at its best when it was played as a goofy comedy, however those moments were rare and the rest of the film was quite bad. I have read the short story and I don’t think that the film really captured the essence of it. The filmmakers focused too much on the special effects and too little on the actual meaning of the story, which is sad because it has a great message. I did like Ben Stiller’s performance, I think he was funny and sweet. Overall, I don’t think this film is worth seeing in the theatres, but you might enjoy watching it at the comfort of your home.
I was looking forward to seeing this film because it looked quite good from the trailers. I have to say that I left the theater quite disappointed and I don’t think this film is worth seeing on the big screen. The movie is beautiful visually and it has plenty of impressive special effects, however, it fails to back up its grand design with enough substance. I did enjoy the film when it played like a comedy, it was fun to watch at those time, unfortunately there were not enough of those moments in the film. I also liked Ben Stiller’s performance, he was likable and quite funny, but I am not sure about his directorial skills. The film was sincere and sweet but it’s just not enough for it to be a good film, but I guess it is family friendly. Overall, I suggest watching this film at the comfort of your home.
