Based on the famous fairytale, Red Riding hood has been remade into a big screen movie. This movie stars Amanda Seyfried, an up and coming actress who first made a splash in the comedy movie Mean Girls. The problem with this movie is that it is just like all of the other teen love stories that have been going around these days. I really expected this movie to be great because it has a great director and I love Amanda Seyfried but I hate to say that it really didn’t deliver. The movie was more of an adaptation of the fairytale, but I don’t remember the fairytale being about love. The visuals on the screen were definitely up to par and that added to the positive side of the movie but the story was so lackluster that I just couldn’t enjoy it in the end. I don’t see this movie doing very well in the box offices.

We all know the fairy tale. It dates back to the 14th century. Little Red Riding Hood leaves the safety of her village to deliver some food to her grandmother who lives in the forest. The wolf goes to grandma’s cottage, eats her, puts on grandma’s clothes, waits for Little Red Riding Hood and then after the famous MY WHAT BIG EYES YOU HAVE part, the wolf also eats Little Red Riding Hood. A woodsman arrives, cuts open the wolf and Little Red and Grandma crawl out of the carcass. They stuff the wolf full of rocks and push him into a well.

Over the centuries there have been many variations of the story. The Brothers Grimm retold it in the 19th century and sanitized it a bit. Some versions are better than others.

The 2011 movie version exploits the recent goth/vampire phenomenon and has the wolf a werewolf.
Like the TWILIGHT series, RED RIDING HOOD is a chick flick. My wife loved it. I was bored. Just like the TWILIGHT movies.
The sets are impressive. The forest and the medieval village is creepy. The rock music didn’t seem to fit with a story set in 14th century Europe but considering its target audience I am sure the soundtrack will sell well.
My wife would rate this movie a Three out of Four. But since I’m writing this review I am only giving it two out of four picnic baskets.

Yep, Little Red Riding Hood was in need of an update. I mean, it WAS created way back in the 14th century, maybe even earlier. It's been interpreted in a bunch of ways, some believing the story to be a parable to a girl's sexual awakening. So yeah, I've got no problems sexing it up, especially if you throw in the hot Amanda Seyfried. Of course, that's all well and good, until you throw in Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first Twilight movie, then you get what we have here: Twilight with a red cape.

Seyfried's Valerie is in love with a studly woodchopper, but is set to marry some rich dude. Yes, Team Woodchopper and Team Rich Dude t-shirts will be available soon at Hot Topic. Meanwhile, there's a werewolf stalking the village. Wait, two hot guys, a virginal girl and a werewolf? What movie am I watching? Anyway, after Valerie's sister is killed, the village brings in a guy to kill the wolf, who brings along with him a giant metal elephant. Of course, since werewolves are humans part of the time...

This movie would suck no matter what (bad dialogue, lame story, weird production design coming from a director who used to be a production designer), but what makes it worse is the pandering. It's Twilight with a different name. Just call it what it is. But the filmmakers insist on pretending it's something different, and to me, that's just disingenuous.

This is a rip-off version of “Twilight” and it is actually worse than it. I think only a teenage girl(and not particularly smart one) can think that this movie is good. There is absolutely no character development and Amanda Seyfried does not look or act like the Red Riding Hood, she just looks like a regular girl from California reciting the text that she have learned for some unknown reason. There is no tension or excitement in this film and I was just bored throughout the whole thing. Only good acting i saw came from Gary Oldman and Julie Christie but it made me wonder why in the world they agreed to be in this film?! Visually the film is very good but it does not make up for bad execution of the film. Overall, I do not recommend seeing it at all.

I really expected this film to be good and with a deep meaning and amazing story, but i was deeply disappointed. The film is a complete mess and only desperate teenagers might like it. The film is basically copying “twilight” and not doing a good job with that either. The film has absolutely no tension and no mystery and the story is told in the most simplistic way with no deeper message (which “Red Riding Hood” is full of). The film almost put me to sleep and it is such a shame because it has really good actors in it. Gary Oldman is great as always but he does not belong in this film and Julie Christie was amazing as well but I also think she made a mistake in accepting to be in this film. Amanda Seyfried was not good or believable as the Red Riding Hood. Overall, stay away from this film and tell other that it is no good.
