As a fan of Poe's works, I found the movie to be an exciting tale of mystery and virtue. It held true to the darkness of Poe's musings and captured the devastated and disfunctional essence of the man through John Cusak (who I believe portrayed Poe successfully). Every moment of the film excited me as they referenced many of Poe's famous works. What an amazing spin they put on his stories! The movie exposed the audience to countless twists and turns as the mystery began to unravel and ultimately unveil the unsuspected killer. John Cusak embodied the tortured soul of Poe and brought to life the man behind the mysteries. It was brilliantly done and I would absolutely recommend that any lover of a good mystery sould see this movie.

Stupid, boring, predictable. I should have walked out.

Starting with a interesting premise and completely squandering it, "The Raven" takes Edgar Allen Poe's stories and processes them through today's penchant for torture porn and standard issue serial killer films. Unfortunately, they screwed things up from the get go, casting John Cusack in a part he is completely miscast in. Cusack's Poe is a caricature, better to be played with someone with more charisma and a hint of craziness (I hate saying this, as I normally love Cusack). A killer is going around, offing people by imitating Poe's stories. When Poe's intended wife is kidnapped, he hooks up with a detective to solve the mystery, and we're left with a mash-up of "Seven", "Saw" and "Sleepy Hollow". Worse, I was left with boredom. I didn't really care what happened, and when the killer was finally revealed, I was just glad the movie was close to being over. It's a shame, because the movie I had in my head turned out to be a lot better than the movie I saw on the screen.

This was not a good film and I do not recommend seeing it in the theaters. I found this film to be silly and badly made and I felt really bad for Cusack because he is a good actor and he deserves a better film. I did not find this film interesting, thrilling or compelling in any sense and I was bored most of the time. Sure, the film looks pretty good visually but that is not enough and I was very disappointed with this movie, I expected a much better film. Overall, I suggest you stay at home and save your money and time.

I was very disappointed with this film and I do not recommend seeing it in the theaters. I had very high expectations for this film and I was bitterly disappointed because it was absolutely terrible. The film was not thrilling, it was kind of silly most of the time and it definitely did not portray Poe in a right way or revealed anything worthwhile about his character. I found this film to be pretty exhausting and extremely boring and i felt kind of bad for John Cusack because he is a great actor but this film did not give him a chance to show off his talent and that is just sad. Overall, I suggest you wait until someone makes a film about Poe that is worth seeing.

I did not like this film and do not recommend seeing it in the theaters. I found this film to be extremely silly and it was exhausting to sit through it, I was literally tired after this film. This film was supposed to be gothic and thrilling and it was neither of those things. Poe definitely deserves a better film and I hope someone will make it soon. I think the characters in the film were underdeveloped and I wish that Cusack had more to work with because I know he is a great actor, he just needs a better film. Overall, do not waste your money and your time on this film, it is definitely not worth it.
