I really enjoyed the purge a whole lot! This movie give you another look at what life would be like without laws. Pretty scary.... kinda of makes you appreciate these laws. if i had to give a rating on the purge i would give it 4 ???? stars! I also would recommend the purge to anyone over the age of 18. I can't wait for Purge 2. (hint, hint)
I'm not writing a review of this or any movie my comment is about this feature of the web page.
Fantastic is all i can say i really enjoy reading the reviews here and yup sure enuf most of them are pretty accurate, insightful and entertaining. So people keep up the good work and thanks for saving me a buck50 and 2 1/2 hours (driving time included) but mostly confirming my hunch on whether to see a movie or not, and i do watch a lot of them, sometimes just because they get panned for the very reasons that i enjoy them.
I hope they keep this feature here its a valuable part of the menu here.
I do not enjoy watching violence on the big screen or for that matter on any screen, however I was intrigued by the trailer of this film and decided to see it. I thought the film was alright and I did find the theme interesting, however there was a lot of silliness in the film that was hard for me to stomach. I did think that it was a pretty good suspenser and the tension was sustained throughout the whole move. The film was also pretty original and thought-provoking and I really liked that about this movie, also it was truly terrifying. Overall, this film is pretty fresh and interesting and I think that it is worth seeing in the theaters.
I really enjoyed watching this film and I think it is worth seeing on the big screen. I found the film to be suspenseful, thought-provoking, terrifying, and pretty original. I think my favorite thing about this film was the fact that it was clever and the way it takes some bad elements from our own time - fear of racial minorities, envy of wealth, needless aggression and gun crime - slightly exaggerates them and projects them into the near future. The film is very engaging and I was on the edge of my seat throughout entire running time and trust me, it is pretty rare. Overall, I recommend seeing this film in the theaters, you will be pleasantly surprised by how good it is.
The Purge is one of those movies that, while novel and intermittently fascinating, leaves you with a crushing sense of hopelessness for humanity. The premise is as follows: in a future, relatively utopian society, the government has come to the conclusion that the best way to curb crime is to allow the citizenry one night of utter lawlessness. All law enforcement is suspended and anyone and everyone is free to wreak whatever havoc they want to – theft, murder, rape, kidnapping, it’s all allowed for a precious few 12 hours until law is restored. The rationale is to let everyone “get it out of their systems” so they can go back to being controlled for the rest of the year.
Interesting? Yes. But then the movie decides to get all claustrophobic on us by centering on the character of Ethan Hawke who plays a dutiful father and husband named James. He works in the security industry and he and his family spend this 12 hour period each year in lockdown, hiding from the marauders outside. A criminal somehow manages to get inside their home and the family has to decide what to do when a gang of mass murdering lunatics show up to reclaim their lost disciple. It’s all very creepy and disquieting – and you’ll be glad it’s just a movie.
Compelling in parts, yes, but ultimately substantially less impressive than its premise promises early on. Strictly for Ethan Hawke’s cult of diehard fans.
Great action packed suspense thriller movie. What would you do if your family and /or someone needed help was in a crisis? You would do everything in your power to protect, help, and save them. Be your own person and make a huge impact. Do the right thing. Forget others who may be greedy, evil, jealous, and selfish. Learn how to say, change, and do something. Be a leader not a follower. Go see this movie.
