User reviews on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in Disney Digital 3D
There is entertainment value in seeing this edition of Pirates in 3D, however the script while full of action is a very tame and poorly developed story. As the movie progresses the bad guys get lamer and the movie has problems trying to juggle way to many characters into the plotline. Depp plays it up manically aloof for the whole ride and never changes stride. Cruz' character is mostly eye candy and misplaced and ill- developed. It feels like they shoe horned her into the movie in a late rewrite. As always, Geoffrey Rush steals the scenes he's in- even from Depp's Jack Sparrow. The evil Blackbeard is flat and one dimensional which adds to the cartoonish feel of the movie as a whole. The Fountain scenes are cool as are the mermaid sequences, but the movie as a whole seems very PG family entertainment. Perhaps the Pirate franchise has finally traveled from stranger tides to ebbtide.
Didn't like it. You might as well watch the previews you'll enjoy it more.
No more pirates for me you let me down johnney. one other thing the point of a 3D movie is for it to be in 3D
Just got home from seeing this latest "Pirates" movie. Of them all, I'd say it is not the best, but it tells a good tale. Some good dramatic scenes, some light laughs. Capt. Jack does what he does best..fly through the air, escape, get caught, and redeem himself in the end. All in all, worth the 2.5 hours spent.
Excellent movie, especialyl with Astrid-Berges-Frisbey
'Twas a time when the Pirates franchise was fun. When it became less fun, Johnny Depp's over the top Jack Sparrow at least kept me interested. With On Stranger Tides, not even Depp can save this series, and it's obvious that the Pirates movies have finally walked the plank.
Taking over the reins from Gore Verbinski, Rob Marshall proves he's much more suited to musicals than he is to action flicks. He doesn't know how to stage an action sequence without leaving the audience completely confused. He also doesn't seem to understand character development. The story is incredibly convoluted, leaving little time for that anyway. But he's got characters like Blackbeard the pirate, and somehow, as the film goes on, his bad guys become less and less menacing. Sparrow's quest for the Fountain of Youth just isn't that interesting, and Depp, try as he might, just can't keep the film from being a bore. It's the shortest film in the series, yet it feels like the longest.
If you're planning on seeing this film in 3D, I've got one word for you: don't. Studios still haven't figured out that, with those 3D glasses on, the screen gets darker, so you've got to film your movies a little brighter. On Stranger Tides is DARK, almost like being on the Pirates ride at Disneyland. It's hard to see anyway, but with those glasses on, it's nearly impossible. So if you insist on seeing this movie, go see it in 2D.
I really liked this movie and i recommend seeing it in 3D. I think it is worth the extra cash to see it in 3D because it is amazing visually and the landscapes look awesome. I think that it is amazing that the fourth film was not too complicated and it was not too long either. The cast was absolutely amazing and I really enjoyed seeing Penelope Cruz in the film, she was great. Keith Richard had really funny lines and great reaction shots. Overall, I had a lot of fun watching this movie.
I think it is a good idea to see this film in 3D because it looks totally amazing. I highly recommend seeing it in 3D. The film was really good and entertaining and I am so glad that even the fourth movie is made well and did not loose it’s charm. Johnny Depp is very entertaining and fun to watch as Jack Sparrow and i think that Penelope Cruz is a wonderful and very sexy addition to the film. The film was amazing visually and I am very glad I saw it in 3D. Overall, you will not be disappointed either way, the film rocks.
