Pirates! Band of Misfits Movie Reviews

If you're a fan of the "Wallace & Gromit" movies and shorts then you'll be sure to love this movie featuring the voice of Hugh Grant as Pirate Captain. Given Grant's natural charisma and highly recognizable voice, I'm surprised to find out that this is hist first real turn at voice acting. He is a natural and makes the movie's lines come to life like no other British actor could. What is it about the British accent that makes us Americans swoon so? If only we could all sound so classy when we speak!
The story is about how Pirate Captain must battle his rivals for the Pirate of the Year Award. Naturally, the story ends up being about much more than just the award, as it teaches lessons about the importance of dreams, self-esteem, perseverance, and hard work. Oh, and the animation is absolutely amazing! I dunno how they do it - but bravo!
Coming on the heels of the grossly under appreciated "Arthur Christmas" is "The Pirates! Band of Misfits", the newest film from Wallace and Gromit's creators, Aardman. Just like that previous film, "The Pirates!" has a distinctly British sense of humor, which I really enjoy, but it's still fun and exciting for kids and adults who can't appreciate that kind of comedy. The Pirates of the title are led by the Pirate Captain (voiced by an excellent Hugh Grant), who is not very good at his job. Yet, that doesn't stop him from dreaming of winning Pirate of the Year at the annual contest. His attempts to win take him and his crazy crew on adventures that include run-ins with the other pirates vying for the title, the pirate hating Queen Victoria, and Charles Darwin, who is in the company of a "man-panzee" that may be the funniest character in the film. It's all incredibly silly, but that's the point, and in the tradition of other Aardman films, "The Pirates!" does well in combining visual humor with dry wit. Director Peter Lord, working from a script by Gideon Defoe, keeps the pace going, and the humor flying fast. The voice cast is all excellent. No matter your age, "The Pirates!" is a lot of fun.
This was a great film and I had lots of fun watching it. I found this film to be refreshingly original, funny and clever and i absolutely loved all the characters. I thought the film was made very well and I enjoyed the old fashioned stop motion technique and amazing attention to detail. I love Aardman films and this one did not disappoint me either, if you have never seen it i urge you to try it out. If you have children in your life i suggest you take them to see this film because it is not only fun to watch but it is also educational. Overall, I thought this film was interesting and funny and I highly recommend seeing it in the theaters.
I really loved this animation and highly recommend seeing it in the theaters. After seeing so many animations that are made with CGI it was really refreshing to see this film which is mainly made with old school stop motion technique. I saw the film with my little niece and we both had a great time watching it. The film was funny, it had great characters and I loved the story, the greatest thing is that it is made for children and adults. I also found this film to be educational and it had a great message about how friends are important but knowledge is the most important. Overall, I loved this film and urge you to see it as well.
