I liked this movie. It wasnt as close to the book as it should have been, but it was a pretty good adaption to it.

I didn't like this movie at all, it was a horribly done rip off of many other movies. Was HORRIBLY different then the book, the movie seemed like it had almost nothing in common with the book.
If I were you don't waste your money on this movie, and go see another movie like Iron Man 2 instead on this.

Percy Jackson is my favorite book. I love all the books in the series and I LUV the movie!!!!! Now they could have put in this other part that I really enjoyed in the book but other than that it was perfect!!! The story line was good. This is a wanna see movie. I suggest this movie especially for greek mythology lovers . I suggest this movie for ages 1 to 1000 well you get the point any age.

I read the story with my kids, and we enjoyed the series very much. However, the movie not only mutilates the story and the characters, it also extricates all the humor or soul with murderous persistence and serves out the carcass to the audience. I was not going to say anything to my kids if they liked it, but they came out of the movie absolutely livid about what Chris Columbus did to their favorite story.

it was a good movie. it wasnt exactly like the book but it was good and funny in its own way,its actually a movie worth seeing and the great news is that its not over yet because theirs still 4 more books, so that means 4 more movies! i strongly suggest you read the books.

Take a quick look at the poster for Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Does it remind you of another movie poster? A movie about another young man with magical powers who has to fight evil? No doubt, the makers of this film are trying to emulate a certain young wizard and his unstoppable film franchise. Heck, the director of Percy Jackson is the same guy that directed the first two Harry Potter movies. So with all of these allusions to that more famous series of books and films, how does this adaptation of what looks to be another kid friendly series stack up? Well, not so great.
Where the books are aimed at 10 year old boys, the movie attempts to expand the audience to teens by making the lead character 17. This also means more action, scarier villains and lack of attention to a good script. It also means that the film is squarely aimed at one demographic, which is unfortunate. Potter proves that even a "children's" book can have mass appeal. Percy Jackson has an interesting concept and, in a way, is educational, teaching us about mythology. A lot of this falls on the head of Columbus, who should have learned a lesson or two from his work on the Potter films. He could have taken this franchise in new and unusual directions, like the Potter movies have gone in. Instead, he continues his pedestrian directing career with this shapeless film, and now leaves it up to other filmmakers to dig themselves out of the hole he created.
Of course, this is only the first in the Percy Jackson series. They've still got four more adaptations to turn the franchise into something interesting. After all, the Potter films took a little while to get going. However, Harry was an original. Percy just seems to be Harry Potter with Greek gods.

They should have called it "Percy Potter and the Order of Those Greek God Dudes."
    'Nuff said.
This is now officially my shortest movie review on record. It fits with the worth of the film. The second star is solely for the fact that Uma Thurman was in it. She can turn me to stone ANY time.
