The thing I loved best about this movie was the story and the performances. The story is really unique and even a bit offbeat for a family film, which makes it more interesting to someone like me who doesn't usually like anything not done by Pixar. But what is really great about this movie is how the story comes to life thanks to the AMAZING performances by the cast, especially that McLovin's guy from SuperBad, he CRACKED ME UP!!! I also lived Casey Affleck's performance as the slow brother, he had some amazingly hilarious lines. I wish people animation studios would get together and plan to make more offbeat things than they usually do. Whenever they go outside the proverbial box, they really make magic...which is why Pixar and Disney are what they are. Paranorman is definitely a better movie than Coraline, though just by a smidge,

He sees "dead people"! Except this is nothing like "The Sixth Sense" - it's a lot more fun and charming and even creepier. "The Sixth Sense" was a very sad and quiet story, but this one has a much happier hero at the center of the story. Norman is a young kid who talks to the dead, including his irascible grandmother (played by the ever-irascible Elaine Stritch). His parents and older siblings think he's a lost cause, but of course Norman know better than to believe their doubts. He ends up on an adventure that proves his abilities are not just the overactive workings of his young imagination. The thing I liked best about this movie is how it mixed perfectly the whole idea of young kids and death without being inappropriate or depressing about it. It's almost bold in a way, but since it's a cartoon most people won't see it that way. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" was a bold movie. This one is just a delight.

A lot of people will see this movie and think "Oh, well it's no 'Brave'"! Yes, it isn't "Brave" but it isn't supposed to be. It's a lot more morbid than anything Pixar or Dreamworks ever did, which makes sense considering it comes from the makers of the delightfully maudlin "Coraline". I admit that I at first balked at the thought of the movie because the last thing I wanted to see was another movie about young vampires and werewolves caught up in the battle against their own immortality, but this movie is sweetly surprising in more ways than one. It is about a young boy named Norman whose family basically thinks he's nuts because he has the ability to talk to the dead (hence the paranormal qualifier). The movie is set up similarly to a lot of other stories about kids in extreme situations whose families don't understand them (his older siblings can't be bothered with him) but of course there's a treasure within. A feel good movie with a lot of weirdness thrown in - go see it, you'll love!

This is a stellar movie and then some! I would give it ten stars if I could, but MovieTimes only allows five, lol. Oh well. My kids and I were absolutely enchanted by this story - for once we have a movie about zombies and supernatural beings that isn't a mopey love fest like the Twilight saga (amen, I say!) and the animation is pure bliss. It's a lot more stylized than what I think is the gold standard of stop-motion animation ("Wallace & Gromit") but it should be different because it's a much different kind of a movie. It's a little on the scary side at times (the whole thing about Norman watching TV with his deceased grandmother was definitely in the creepy side) but it's still an enjoyable family film. It's from the guy who directed one of my all-time favorites "Flushed Away" (my kids love it too) so this movie is right up your alley if you like that type of entertainment. One of the best movies this summer.

I really liked this film and highly recommend seeing it in the theaters with your family. The film was very innovative, genuine, funny and sweet and I enjoyed it as much as my little niece and nephew did. I honestly did not expect this film to be as good and charming as it was and I was pleasantly surprised after having to endure countless hyped-up summer films that were sorely disappointing. The story is really great and I really enjoyed the clever humor and the overall feel and look of this film is really incredible. I suggest you take your children to see this film and I bet all of you will have an amazing time.

I thought this stop- motion animation was great and I recommend seeing it in the theaters. The film not only looked amazing and had a very distinct style to it but it was also interesting and entertaining and I had a great time watching it. I found this film to be endearing and emotional and the best of all it felt genuine and that is a rare find these days. I found the film to be funny, sweet and magical and my little nephew also enjoyed it a lot. This film pushes boundaries but it is not inappropriate and your whole family can enjoy it together.

What an awesome film! This is the second stop-motion animated film by the studio called LAIKA. Their first film was Coraline. In Paranorman, a small town is under attack by zombies and the town calls on Norman to save them. The reason they call on Norman is because he can speak with the dead. The story overall was a bit thin but the care that went into the animation was obvious. The movie was visually appealing in every way. The only part I regret was not seeing it in 3D. The movie was also very funny. A lot of very quick humor can be found throughout the film. The movie is exactly what I thought it would be - a warm, smart, and funny family film that I enjoyed thoroughly. I would recommend this movie to any family.
