Animated movies are usually among the best movies each year because the filmmakers really let their imaginations go wild and they make movies that don't exist to cater to one age group or demographic. People really love animated films because they let you go where a live action movie generally cannot. This is definitely true of "ParaNorman" where they take a disturbing chapter of American history (the burning of witches in Salem) and turn it into a heartwarming tale of acceptance and self-esteem. A lot of kids that see the movie will identify with the character of Norman because he's so fundamentally misunderstood, and I think that's a great message for kids that are afraid to stand out or be unique or be true to themselves. It's also a great message for bullies that don't want to accept others for who they are. And the best part is that the movie imparts these lessons without being sappy or preachy. One of the best movies I've seen in a long, loooong time!

This is really just a darling gem of a movie...I am almost shocked at how much I loved it! It's not your standard issue cartoon about a young put upon kid who has to prove his worth to the doubters in his life. It's really about a bizarre ritual in colonial era Massachusetts where witches were burned at the stake and hunted down and killed...and now they are talking to a young boy named Norman whose family thinks he might be a teeny bit loco. I was surprised that the movie is as bold as it is but then it's a welcome relief from all the movies we've had to sit through all summer that are just rehashes or remakes or sequels. It's great to see someone in Hollywood besides Pixar trying to do something outside the box. I wasn't sure if it would hold up in 3D but it really did look great and didn't take anything away from the gorgeous animation. The music and voices are also superb. A definite must-see.

It's not often that we look back on the summer movie season and think that there were a lot of artistic risks taken by the films and filmmakers that release between May and September. But that is absolutely the case with "ParaNorman". The writers and director took a huge risk in making a metaphysical supernatural animated family movie and yet it works beautifully. Kind of reminded me of that amazing movie from 2007 called "Persepolis" which was also basically a comic book about very serious issues in modern day Iran. A lot of people won't see this movie because it's not Disney or Pixar and also because it's animated (they'll think it's strictly for kids) but it is far, far more innovatory than any of the super hero flicks that came out these last few months, and I even think it is a better movie than "The Dark Knight Rises". Don't be square and narrow minded: see it before it leaves the theater and you will be blown away. Especially in 3D!

If there was any justice in this world, my kids would always beg me to take them to movies like "Paranorman" - ha! I was a bit skeptical at first given the subject matter (I'm not a fan of creepy supernatural stuff, especially for my kiddos) but this movie was really charming and was so beautifully animated that I didn't mind spending the extra 30 bucks to take my kids and myself to see it in 3D. Mind you, it's no Pixar classic but it is as good as "Coraline" which I also really enjoyed a couple of years ago. The voice performances are what really bring the whole thing to life, as are the gorgeous facial expression on the animated figures (it really is all about the eyes, which you will understand when you see the movie). This movie will go down as a classic. How do I know? Even my teens are begging me to take them again next weekend instead of seeing that new Shia LeBouf movie. For once, I can say "good job, Hollywood!"

Loved it, loved it, loved it s'more! This is a real treat in 3D, and I think families that are dreading the whole back to school blues would do well t take their kids to the movies for one last summer movie bonanza. This isn't quite as feel good as Brave, but it is way better than Madagascar 3 and it light years ahead of the insipid tragedy that was Ice Age 4 (ick!) If you don't like movies that are a bit bold (just a bit) then you probably won't like this one. Some people think that just because a movie is a family flcik or that it's animated that it has to be ultra saccharine and sweet. This is definitely not true, and anyone who has seen any of Tim Burton's animated pictures will understand (is there anything better than "The Nightmare Before Christmas?). The stop motion animation is enhanced by the 3D and looks super lush and colorful. I hope that this is one of the movies nominated for Best Animated Picture this year, it really deserves to be recognized.

I saw this movie in regular 2D format and was very impressed by it so I decided I had to see it in 3D as well. After all, most movies these days come in both formats and if I really, REALLY love something I will watch it in both (like Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man). To be honest, there's usually not much point in seeing a live action movie in 3D unless it has A LOT of CGI but the same is not true for animated movies, eve stop motion animation. You might think that because the movie is made with basically a million little puppets that there is no need for CGI but there are a lot of scenes where the special effects come into play in ways that just cannot be achieved without the help of computers. The meat and potatoes of the picture, so to speak, are definitely the puppets made by the animators, but the CGI definitely helps the movie come to life when it gets all supernatural. A really great treat and feast for the eyes.

What a great film this was and I am very glad I got to see it in the theaters. I saw the film in 3D and I thought it looked pretty awesome and very different from anything I have seen before. I have never really seen stop-motion animation before and this film was a real treat for me. THis film was emotional, surprising, funny and really exciting and I had a blast watching this film. The theater was full of children and I could see that they were enjoying this film as well and I just love films that can entertain adults and children equally.

I really enjoyed watching this film and I think it is worth seeing in the theaters. I saw the film with my friend’s children and we all had a great time and let me tell you, that is rare. We saw it in 3D and I thought it looked great and very stylish in a good way. The film has a great story, interesting and likable characters and I also found it to be quite funny and charming. It is pretty amazing to see a film that looks beautiful and also has a great story and you feel quite uplifted afterwards. Overall, this is a great family film that will stimulate you intellectually and will be visually appealing as well.
