"The Pact" is one of my favorite movies to release all summer. I thought it was really well-done with an interesting story and unusual twists that not many horror movies have, and I have seen A LOT of horror movies, believe me. This is probably the best horror movie to come out since "Cabin In the Woods" which was more of a psychological thriller and this one has parts of that too, but it is really about the things we don't know and how that can haunt us. The two girls who play the leads are really terrific and I loved the way they portrayed their sisterly bond, it was very natural. The character of the mother was interesting too because she is kind of a phantom presence in the movie and you don't know what to make of her since all we know about her from the beginning is that she's dead and that she might have a secret. You'll have to watch the movie to find out what that secret is, it's chilling!!!

I don't get why they didn't just release this movie in the Fall or around Halloween when all the other horror movies are out. A movie like this that wants to be scary but really isn't just gets swept under the rug in the summer when it has to compete with movies like "Spider-Man" and "Brave". Those are exciting movies with big expectations, this is just a little movie that almost no one has heard about and nobody will watch because it's a horror movie in the summer! Really dumb marketing. I thought it was okay as far as suspense thrillers go, but there wasn't much to be scared of in this. It's pretty standard in terms of plot and character and I don't understand how they cast the lead females. They are just as blonde as blonde can be without being the same person. If they had a major actress maybe some of us would want to see it more. Next time, they should cast America's hottest actress, Megan Fox.

Everyone and their mother should be supporting this movie: it dares to go where few low-budget horror films dare to go. By this I mean that it doesn't try to scare the audience by sending some crazed lunatic monster being into a house full of sorority girls where each one gets slashed to bits. Instead, the movie slowly and carefully builds the tension to the point where it seems like things are going a certain way and then all the expectations are flipped on their side and things are suddenly very terrifying. The director Nicholas McCarthy does a lot with seemingly very little which shows how much more intense and well-made the movie could have been if it were made on a large scale budget by a big Hollywood studio. I would say that McCarthy is one of the best directors to watch out for in the future. He knows his stuff and he can spin gold from straw.

My kids basically begged me to take them to see this which I only agreed to because they assured me it isn't the standard slash-n-gore bloodfest horror movie. I'm glad that they didn't turn out to be liars (lol) because this movie is actually fairly interesting as far as horror movies go. I don't let my kids usually go to see scary movies because then I have to deal with their nightmares for weeks on afterward but this one was scary without being too over the top. I like the fact that it really explored the relationship between sisters and mothers and daughters which makes it much more enjoyable for parents like me. There were a few times when I did scream out loud (I think my kids were laughing at me) but I was genuinely taken by surprise by what happened in the film even though I grew up watching scary movies. Overall, not a bad movie for kids to watch as long as they have adult supervision.

I normally don't like seeing horror or scary films in the summer (after all, that's when we're supposed to be watching the latest superhero movies or animated sequels) but this movie was a refreshing treat. It is very scary without being gory and that's what makes it really interesting. Two sisters visit their family's old vacation cabin after their mother dies and they end up realizing that something(or someone) is in the cabin with them. Weird things start happening which make them think that the cabin might be haunted. One of the sisters eventually starts having dreams (or nightmares) that tell her that something horrible happened there and that only their dead mother can help. I like the fact that this movie is full of twists and turns that you don't see coming, which keeps it fresh and which tense. If you like suspensful movies, then this is the summer mvie for you.

I am a sucker for scary films and lately I have been very disappointed with them so I did not have high expectations for this film. However, I thought that this movie was actually scary and pretty interesting and if you like horror films this one is a good one. I like that the film was not gory, it was mysterious and gloomy and I prefer that to bloodbaths that every other director seems to do in their films. This is a debut film for the director and I was very impressed and I can not wait until he comes up with his next film. The film was stylish and very well acted and I think it is worth your time and money.
