Not Fade Away Movie Reviews

I had high hopes for this film, I thought it should be great because it is directed by David Chase and the story seemed to be great. Unfortunately, the film did not live up to my expectations, it was actually pretty disappointing and I am truly sad to say that. I did like that the director was able to capture the spirit of the era and I thought the soundtrack was pretty amazing as well, but everything else kind of fell short. I felt that the film was disjointed somehow, the pieces of it worked very well but when you put everything together it does not feel right, the film was not driven by a plot. I also felt that the film had quite a lot of cliches and I did not enjoy that, I wish someone came up with something original about the 60’s.
This is a music driven coming-of age drama set in 1960's suburbia. I kind of liked this film, even though I don't think it is necessary to see it in the theaters, I had a good time watching it. The director was able to create a certain atmosphere of 1960's incredibly well and I enjoyed the story as well. The film is really messy and there were many mistakes made while making this film but in a weird way it is also endearing and sweet. The soundtrack of the film is amazing and I totally enjoyed rocking to the old tunes. The film is definitely nostalgic and sentimental but I did not mind that because I feel the same as the director does about that wonderful time when rock music profoundly impacted American culture.
I really wanted to like this film, I mean I love music and I thought that I will enjoy a film that is set in 1960’s and that is all about music. Unfortunately, I hated this film with all my heart and I do not recommend seeing it in the theaters. I found the film to be meandering, it was poorly written and I hated the acting, basically the only thing I liked about this film was the soundtrack. This film was uninspired and overly sentimental, it was a real mess and I regret spending my time and money on it. I heard that a lot of people actually loved this film and I was really surprised by that. I guess it is one of those films that will be loved or hated, which is not a bad thing afterall.
