Sorry this movie I will not buy in Video....even though I did like Nicole Kidman singing. I just could not relate to the man cheating over and over with all these different women and getting the wife in the end. This to me is a Tiger Woods Cinderella story... and only another man or women who has lived this life would appreciate reliving it on the movie screen.
In the truly real world when all that money is not the end reward or factor I don't believe a true women in REAL LIFE that thinks highly of herself will or could live with a coward. lier, and a rotten cheater of a no good man. Who in a few months, years, will do it all over again while she grows older and older and never really finds out just who she really could have become.
If your a Broadway buff you have seen the play and will love this movie. We already know that men and women don't really understand each other and this movie shows you why with elegance. True to the original play even with the deletion of some numbers and addition of new ones still no happy ending but the story is real. Ironic that such an honest real life man has his story told by the women in his life in fantisty format. The musical numbers, the costumes, the location (I want to book a trip to Rome ASAP) help this playboy director from the 1960's reveal his life losses and to own his actions. Its the story of a man who lives the life he thinks he deserves but does he?
My wife and I found NINE exceptionally slow to develop in terms of plot, and really boring in terms of content. I do not understand how it got so many Golden Globe nods, so I no longer have any confidence in Golden Globe. I would not recommend this movie to anyone except for those who badly need help sleeping fitfully. It is the only movie my wife and I walked out toward the ending in years. Pity I have to give it a one star rating out of five; I would have preferred to give it none.
8 1/2 is a glorious film, full of joy and love of life.
9 is dreary, pretentious, an egotist's tawdry wet dream, full of angst - "I'm guilty, I'm bad, woe is me! It's a cross between the worst of Broadway musicals and MTV - actors with fake accents, singers who don't sing, and dancers who can't dance.
Borrow 8 1/2 at the library, pop your own popcorn, and enjoy an imaginative sexy dream of a movie for a free evening at home.
