Moonrise Kingdom Movie Reviews
User reviews on Moonrise Kingdom
Do you remember the first time you fell in love? Do you remember how it felt to feel that feeling for the very, very first time? This charmer of a movie from Wes Anderson tries to recreate that feeling and I dare say that it succeeds greatly. The movie is set in 1965 and follows two 12 year old who fall in love and then make a pact to run away. Their escape upends the town that they live in and makes the clueless adults who are in charge of them finally realize some very important things about life, love, and being a kid.
Wes Anderson always makes great movies, and this one has great performances to match from Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, and even Bruce Willis (who I usually don't like). But the movie belongs to the kids. They will steal your heart! Definitely a great movie for anyone, whether a family, on a date, or just wanting to see something memorable. Don't miss it, you'll regret it!
BEST. MOVIE. EVER!!!
If you like the quirky style of Wes Anderson's movies (though I admit I was bored by "Fantastic Mr. Fox") then chances are you will be utterly delighted by "Moonrise Kingdom". I totally related to the way the world of the kids was depicted in relation to the world of the adults (all of whom are pretty dumb, as we all remember adults being when we were young) which is the thing I took away the most from the movie.
The kids who play the leads (ooh, I can't remember their names) are newcomers. I saw them in an interview on TV and I could not believe that this is their first real acting gig. I still don't really believe them, to be honest, the are just soooo good! I triple love everything about them - they're so the opposite of the shallow glam kids we're used to on shows like "Glee" and "High School Musical" that you can't help but fall in love with them. In fact, I dare you not to: you will just melt every time they come on screen! Ah, to be young again...
This one is a grand slam all the way! A sweet and heartfelt story that is considerably offbeat but which still manages to tug a your heartstrings because it rings so true. This is one of those rare movies from Hollywood that really gets childhood right - and it's a treat to get to watch it with your kids who will no doubt enjoy it every bit as much as you did. I know my kids and I loved loved loved it so much and for so many different reasons: it made me recall how difficult and magical childhood can be, while they were able to relate to the way kids seem to live with but away from the adult world.
Wes Anderson has outdone himself - I even enjoyed it more than I did his last film, the animated "Fantastic Mr. Fox", which is a favorite in my house. I think this movie will be a classic that will be shown for many generations to come, just like "Mary Poppins" and "The Sound of Music", even though it is so very different. My favorite in the film were the two unknown actors that play the young kids, but Edward Norton also deserves special mention. I can't wait to see what Wes Anderson comes up with next!
Yeah, it's quirky and weird - sometimes more than it should be - but that's the magic of Wes Anderon's movies! If you remember what it was like to be young and misunderstood, then you'll relate to this movie. It's about two misfit kids who hatch a plan to run away and start life all over again. The adults in their lives naturally mess things up for them because they have forgotten the magic of childhood and all the things that kids need to hear and know to grow up safe and secure and loved.
The two young actors that play the leads are the reason the movie is so memorable. There are a lot of big name adult actors in the film - Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, and my personal favorite, Edward Norton - but the movie makes you remember what it was like to be a kid and how impossible it is sometimes to grow up, even when you know it's unavoidable. A really great movie that everyone will enjoy. :)
I am absolutely in love with this film and highly recommend seeing it in the theaters. The film is undeniably charming, smart and genuine and that is why i adore Wes Anderson and all of his films, he is truly a genius. I loved the story and the way it unravels and the way the film is shot and directed, basically I see no faults in this film, it is perfect. The performances by Hayward and Gilman are wonderful and powerful and definitely drive this film. Overall, this is a wonderful film and it is worth your time and money.
Sorry to say but it was a complete waste of time. My wife and I looked at each other and wondered how we got stuck watching it. Obviously a few well known actors doing a favor for a well known director. Interesting idea that went nowhere. The kids were the only good thing about the movie. Hence the 2 stars. Don't waste your time going to the theater to watch this. If your curious why people ( mostly followers ) liked this wait till you can watch it at home.
I absolutely loved this film and highly recommend seeing it in the theaters. I have been waiting for this film since I saw the reviews and I had very high expectations for this movie. I am glad to say that the film did not disappoint and i had a wonderful time watching it. I love Wes Anderson’s films and this movie displays all of his amazing talent very well. The film feels so light and significant in the same time, it is also funny bittersweet and really moving. I was truly enchanted by this film and if you like Wes Anderson you will feel the magic as well.
