I disagree with the critics. To me this is one of the most enjoyable WWII movies of all time. I will return to see it again, and get it on DVD! The attention to historic detail is terrific. The storyline and dialogue make it entertaining, even as an historic novelized doc**entary. I like the characterizations even if they are a stretch. I appreciated the high moral tone and the comic relief. The photography and musical score added immensely to the enjoyment. I'd give it a 4.5.

Monuments Men was interesting to me because it let me know about something that happened but was unkown to me. I saw it on the big screen and althought as the other reviewers stated it was lacking in so many ways to me, it told a hidden history happening and who were these Monument Men.

I thoroughly enjoyed the "Monuments Men." I like to say, "A good story, well-told." I liked the casting of the roles. I can't criticize the movie-making aspects -- to me, there were no major flaws. It's an important story from World War II. The U.S. doesn't get enough credit for its good deeds toward humanity by the rest of the world these days.

This movie missed a HUGE opportunity to tell a dramatic, historical story. Clooney obviously did not do his homework when he decided to bring this rich, deep story to film. Instead, he brought his smart-alecky, sophomoric personality to a story that deserved much more respect and attention to detail. This was 'National Treasure' meets 'Oceans Eleven' with a musical score that was totally inappropriate for the story. Too bad. Maybe another, more educated, less self-indulgent director will get a hold of this wonderful story. A waste of talented actors, a waste of a great story and certainly a waste of money! Very disappointed!

Well, I did not know much in the way of details about this totally heroic group. I am indebted to them for preserving some of my heritage and to Mr Clooney for telling the story.

I'm in complete agreement with the two other posted reviews. I however, saw the flaw of the film to be the "spreading out" of the characters. Soon after the film begins and we see the obligatory team building speech by Clooney about the responsibility they have to save this stolen art, the team separates out across Europe. The next hour of the film follows our separated team with individual moments as they pursue their objectives individually or in teams of two. This leads to a lack of continuity and cohesion that this film needed. Instead we get a Cliffs' Notes version of important events that occur while separated. The film only picks up again when the team reunites. The climax then gets a little far out there for me and left me ready to head home.

I was quite excited to see this film, you see I am a bit of history nerd and I know quite a lot about the platoon that the film portrays. I really wanted to like this film, unfortunately it did not capture my imagination and I don’t think it is worth seeing on the big screen. I found the film to be smug and quite incoherent and I did not have a good time watching it. I think George Clooney who starred, directed, produced, and co-wrote this film, stretched himself too thin and the results are less than desirable. The film did have fun moments but there were too few of them.

I really wanted to like this film because the cast is so great and it’s a great story, but the film was a mess and I did not enjoy watching it. The film had its good moments, I just wish there were more of them. The main flaw of this film was the tonal shifts, it was just so all over the place and that was really distracting. The real story is so intriguing and fascinating and I really expected that this film will be a slam dunk, unfortunately George Clooney’s direction was too tamed and boring. Overall, I do not think this film is worth seeing on the big screen, however, you might enjoy it at the comfort of your home on a particularly dull night.
