I usually do not like martial arts films but my friend loves them so I agreed to see this one with him. I am glad I did because to my surprise the film was totally awesome in a very weird and intersting way. The film tells an epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero in nineteenth-century China who must unite to destroy the clan traitor who has an ability to destroy everyone he knows. The movie looks great visually and it mixes violence, Western movie aspects and hip-hop in a wonderfully odd and appealing way. The film also has a great international cast that includes Quentin Tarantino, RZA, Russell Crowe, and Lucy Liu. The film is directed by RZA who also plays the lead and he does a great job with both of these tasks, I was quite impressed. -
This is a film about a lone outsider hero in nineteenth-century China who must unite to destroy the clan traitor who would destroy him and the village he lives in. RZA makes his big-screen debut as director and the leading man in this film. I did not expect to like this film but to my surprise I did and I recommend seeing it in the theaters. The film is visually amazing, it mixes classic martial-arts cinema in all of its glorious excess with the beats and breaks and attitude of hip-hop. The cast is amazing and the characters are interesting and surprising. Overall, I think this is a good film that needs to be seen on the big screen, it was created for that.
