I was struck by the strong negative reviews of this movie. I think the movie asks the question what does it mean to be a responsible American citizen. It is a political movie addressing how we can regain a democracy.

I agree with Inard. This is a very good movie for someone with an open mind. The movie portrays a good description of the "real world" we live in!

I'd say to anyone who may see this movie: save your money - save your social life - save yor relationship... .skip this piece of crapola. We had to leave about a half-hour in in order to save our sanity. It is that bad. My partner broke up with me for picking such an awful movie. I'm filing a complaint with VISA to try to get my money back.

Interesting how opinions differ. Mine would be that this may actually be Redford's finest film yet, an art film that is so important that it ought to be required viewing for everyone in the United States. Families ought to devote time to discussing the issues that are raised and schools and churches and political groups ought also take to heart the many social and political perspectives presented. The acting was, in fact, superb. Yes, there is dialogue. Perhaps it is time for people to think and listen and not just to sit passively in front of mindless entertainment. Our current administration has embroiled the country in what it promises will be a nearly endless war on terror. Everyone should be concerned, involved, and willing to think through the ramifications. Thank you, Robert Redford, for the gauntlet and superb directing.

I agree with Vicki. This movie is horrible. It's so bad I found myself getting pissed off at it. I would have left but my wife loves Tom Cruise so we had to stay. Too bad for her she only got to see Tom Cruise in one outfit in one room the entire movie. That's the way this movie is, there are maybe 5 different scenes total. They are filled with boring dialogue. I don't think there is any music/score in this movie at all. I literally would have preferred to stay home and watch public access for an hour and a half.

It can be a deadly combination...d irecting and starring in your own movie. Three different stories interlaced to create a interesting and enlightening message....that 's what I thought my $10 was buying me. Sadly I can't say I'd pay $3.33 for any one of them. This movie has ALL the star power money can buy, but left me feeling "brow beat" by the superior professor and his time worn wisdom. It did not inspire me, enlighten me, or make me ponder anything more than how to choose my movies more carefully. NOT ONE veteran actor Streep, Redford, or Cruise seemed believable. They deliver their lines but you are keenly aware they are "acting". Redford is hopelessly "in love" with himself and that alone makes him indigestible. As the professor he comes across smug in his delivery abolishing any thought that he REALLY CARES about his students,an ingredient that is key in convincing the audience of his HIGHER mission....to change the world, one lion at a time.
