Director Zack Snyder takes a shot at animation with Legends of the Guardians, and he does a pretty good job. I have some issues with Snyder's style. It's a little too bombastic for my taste. But here, I admire him for making a film that can be appreciated by adults and children. He's also one of the first to use 3D as more than just a gimmick.
Soren and Kludd are barn owl brothers who are kidnapped when they fall out of their nest. They are taken by evil owls trying to put together a slave army for impending war. The only ones who can stop this evil group are the guardians. The rest of the film follows Soren as he tries to find them.
This is an animated film, but it's not just for kids. There are good guys, and there are bad guys. The battle scenes are incredibly exciting, not surprising coming from a man who created an entire film around the Battle of Thermopylae. The animation is pretty inspiring, and a nice break from the cartoony animation of most films. It does slow down towards the end, and I still have some issue with Snyder's overuse of slow mo, but this animated film is something but kids and adults can enjoy.
