Visually stunning and surprisingly heart felt, Kung Fu Panda 2 is the sequel to go see this weekend. While the original was a surprisingly enjoyable film with a lot of laughs, this one takes the character of Po and explores his backstory, which leads to a much deeper experience.
Po is now a Dragon Warrior, but a new nemesis with a new weapon threatens to take away his kung fu. Po and the Furious Five must stop this evil, but along the way, memories from Po's past flood back, and he tries to discover his origins. It's a fascinating take on a character who didn't have much depth in the first film. In fact, it's why sequels exist in the first place.
The main reason to see this film is because of the visuals. Jennifer Yuh, who was the head of story on the first movie, directs this one, and the visual flair is incredibly exciting. This movie also has one of the best uses of 3D I've seen: when Po flashbacks to his past, his memories are in 2D. It's things like this that make GOING to the movies still worthwhile, and a great reason to go see this sequel.
