Kon-Tiki Movie Reviews

My old man's favorite movie of all time is Lawrence of Arabia and when he told me that I knew I would have to take him to see Kon Tiki, an unusual title but one that makes more sense when you see the film. It's about a group of sailors and wayfaring adventurers from Norway who try to retrace the path taken by the polynesians thousands of years ago to prove that they could have made the trip from South America across the Atlantic. It's a lot of fun and even though it sometimes gets a little technical, I found the whole thing fascinating. My dad wanted it to be more of an old fashioned epic like Lawrence of Arabia, but I guess he's just stuck in his ways, lol. This makes a great movie for anyone - adults, kids, families, people who want to impress their dates, or just anyone who likes to watch a good old fashioned adventure story. I highly recommend this and think it has the potential to be a big hit.
If you enjoy an adventure movie on the sea then you might like this one, though at time I felt like it was too confused as to what it was trying to be. It reminded me a lot of the kind of Disney live action classics we used to see in the 60s like Robinson Crusoe and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Of course, that was a different era and very few things have remained the same so I am curious as to why Disney thought they could just revive the old brand with a few modern touches. The one thing this movie has the old ones did not are very, very good looking handsome and rugged men who go about their business of adventuring like it's second nature to them. They have all kinds of skills that I'm sure I would have understood better if I knew anything about sailing or nautical adventures, but as I don't this felt like a discovery channel movie on boating crossed with an old time Disney adventure from a few decades ago.
