Jack the Giant Slayer: An IMAX Experience Movie Reviews
User reviews on Jack the Giant Slayer: An IMAX Experience
I thought that Hollywood trying to make another classic fairy tale into a super slick and sexy action movie would be a big old disappointment but I was really pleasantly surprised by how good this movie turned out to be. Maybe it was just the super low expectations I had of the flick, but seeing it on IMAX really had me feeling thrilled and like I was transported to a world where giants and giant wars were real. The CGI is literally stunning - I was so beside myself when Jack first encounters the giants. It is better than anything in The Hobbit or even The Avengers. Whoever designed the characters really took their time to make it feel real. Nicholas Hoult is also a superstar in the making. He is bagging some great roles and this one should make him the next Robert Downey Jr. He is a great actor with a lot of subversive charm that everyone finds cool and attractive,
In truth, on its own merits, I would rate this as a B movie, meaning I would give it four stars for the quality of the story, acting, and overall direction. But seeing it on IMAX really made me gaze with wonder at the screen and so I had to give it a full five stars. It's basically a souped up and sexier version of Jack and the Beanstalk, though this one doesn't have just one giant trying to kill Jack; it has hundreds, if not thousands of huge and enormous giants towering across the screen and lunging at the humans in crazy war scenes that are just too much for the standard size screen to hold. You will really believe that giants are terrifying if you see this on the IMAX screen. It's a pity that the movie is only getting a limited IMAX release because this is one that really benefits from the supersize screen, something no other movie really has in recent memory. This is even better than "The Hobbit".
