User reviews on Ip Man 2: Legend of the Grandmaster (Yip Man 2: Chung si chuen kei)
There haven’t been a lot of kung fu movies coming out lately, but IP Man 2 finally satisfies that void. The movie is based on Bruce Lee’s martial arts teacher, IP Man. This is the sequel to IP Man, where the main character moves to Hong Kong to live the simple life and setup a martial arts academy. I really enjoyed this movie. It felt like an old school kung fu film, which I always like. The martial arts were not crazy and over choreographed, they were simple but effective. All of the action was done within the frame. The punches and kicks made the movie. The action was incredible. The story was a little corny but that is to be expected from a kung fu movie. The action scenes that were setup are all great, especially the final battle scene. Very good movie, thumbs up.
IP Man 2 is the sequal to the kung fu movie IP Man. I personally love kung fu movies so this was a joy to see. IP Man 2 is about a man named IP Man (oddly enough) and his story in the 1940s Hong Kong under British Colonial occupation. Directed by Wilson Yip, the fight scenes are absolutely amazing because they are choreographed by a legendary choreographer. Thinking about the fight scenes more, they are not over-done like many Hollywood fight scenes are done today. They are masterful and simple at the same time, all of the action happens within the view of the camera and without special effects. The special effects come from the kung fu masters themselves. I was very impressed with their skills. The story is also awesome and the movie’s pace is perfect. There are a few longer fight scenes that I could have used a little shorter but overall they are all really good. This is definitely a movie any kung fu fan should see.
