What a beautiful animation and what a beautiful story. I was touched by this film and the beautiful message it contains. It is a lovely, slow-paced film that is full of silent messages and hidden meanings. This film is full of longing and it is so beautifully melancholic, I was truly enchanted by it and I wish there were more films like this. It is also wonderful visually, I could see the imperfections of 2D and it made me like the film even more. The whole mood of the film is bittersweet but it is not sad, well maybe a little, but it is beautiful in its sadness. I guess i just like movies like this, they make me wonder and they make me feel. I suggest seeing this wonderful animation.
I love animated films and not the high-tech ones, the old fashion 2D animations that are all about the story, instead of being all about the technology. “Illusionist” is one of those wonderful animated stories that will move you and make you think and it is also a beautiful animation. I saw all the imperfections in the drawings and I liked it because life is also imperfect and it is perfectly represented in this film both in the storyline and in the drawings. Even though the most of the film is in French (with English subtitles) I could understand a lot from the movements of the characters, their expressions or the mood of the scene. This film is truly magical and I urge everyone to see this wonderful Oscar-nominated animation.
I absolutely loved this animation and I will definitely buy the DVD when it comes out. The animation is full of love, sadness, remorse, and loss and I just loved watching it and experiencing those feelings with the characters. The film has minimum dialogue and all that you need to know and feel is expressed through the pictures. The film is so beautiful and I could tell that every detail was thought of and everything in this movie had its place and meaning. I really liked that it was not done in 3D and you could see all the wonderful imperfections of 2D hand-drawn picture. The story touched me deeply and I wish more animations like this were created. I am urging you to go and see this wonderful film. I promise, you will not be disappointed.
The Illusionist (L’illusionniste) is a French animated film being released in NY and LA on Christmas day. The movie is about a French illusionist who finds himself out of work and travels to Scotland. In Scotland, he meets a young woman who he falls in love with. In my opinion, a 2D animated film is a thing of the past. It looks outdated and uninteresting. I’ve been spoiled with movies like Avatar (even though it is not animated) and of course all of the Pixar films that are both 3D animated and 3D in general. Ignoring that fact, I still did not like the movie too much. A love story brought to life with lame characters and a boring story did not make me feel for the movie at all. Most of the movie is wordless, which means it is supposed to be mostly visual. This is another reason to dislike the 2D animation. At points the movie can be funny. The type of funny when you chuckle but don’t burst out laughing. Nothing in this movie jumped out at me. I would not recommend this movie.
