Interesting movie and a lesson to all men about the games women play.... I love you forever soon turns into I hate you, I'm bored, you're not fixing me, you don't make enough money for me. Well done, well acted, Ben Affleck always seems to come out with movies that are different, not Hollywood formula. Even the cops were real as they bit on the easiest solution, and the media turned it into a circus... a close-up of human nature and our sorry condition.
Screen play was badly written. I honestly don't know how some of the lines were delivered without laughing. Plot holes in the story big enough to drive a Mack truck through. And who did the casting? Neil Patrick Harris as a rich ex lover, really? Tyler Perry is hard to watch as anything but Madea though he was one of the better actors in this exercise in mediocrity. Ben as Batman, hah can't wait. His best movie is still The Town. His acting still is stiff and looks somehow programmed and uncomfortable. I can't imagine the book after seeing the movie. The book is very popular so go figure. Plus this movie is almost three hours long. AARRRGGGH! torture.
It was a pretty good movie. I was interested. However, the lady who played his wife in the Movie, Rosamund Pike, was BORING. While watching her, I thought, "She must have known the casting director." She was beautiful but had no personality, whatsoever. That meant that she and Ben Affleck had no chemistry because you can't have chemistry with a poor actor. For his part, Affleck was pretty good. Every since he stopped trying to be Mr. Hollywood lead actor, he has become likable again. The story was written well. Also, Tyler Perry was surprisingly good. There were some trashy sex scenes that should have been left out, but, I guess you have to please teenage boys out there, right? This movie falls between "see it at the movies" or "wait for video."
Interesting screenplay...I suppose well written, executed appropriately, but I hated this film...did not sympathize with one character....even the detectives were annoying...the only redeeming performance would be the character based loosely on Nancy Grace. I would have cast a different actress to portray Amy Dunne...Ben Affleck was an absolute bore...this film would be an okay/fun rental...but no need to see on big screen. If you want to see outstanding performances by an entire cast, and an excellent screenplay...go see Drop.
