G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Movie Reviews

I like this movie a lot. I saw this movie at windchimes cinema 8. I wasn't skeptical about they're costumes (or should i say uniforms), because the X-men movies took the same route and turned out great. The Accelerator suits were cool and were useful for the Joe's. My favorite characters are Snake Eyes (Ray Park) is cool, Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee) is cool, Cobra Commander/The Doctor / Rex Lewis (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is cool, creepy and mysterious, Destro (Christopher Eccleston) is awesome, Baroness (Sienna Miller) is hot and cool Duke (Channing Tatum) is cool and Zartan (Arnold Vosloo) was awesome. These characters were also cool - Heavy Duty, Cover Girl (hot), Shana 'Scarlett' O'Hara (hot), General Hawk, Ripcord. I like this movie a lot. I used to watch some of the G.I. joe cartoons. I thought Marlon Wayans was going to ruin his character (not the movie) in the film, because i dont like comedians in movies. But he didn't. Marlon Wayans jokes was very funny and it help the film rather than decrease it. Great movie. 5 stars.
I thought this G.I. Joe was pretty good, decent beginning for the series. However, I was seriously irritated by one thing. The "reveal" of Cobra Commander was the most boring non-suspenseful reveal I have ever seen. They tried to make it suspenseful, but they got Cobra Commander ALL WRONG....! The "mask" was absolutely not creative, but more importantly, the new "voice" of Cobra Commander was absolutely terrible and boring, no suspense at all to it. Bland as turkey.
I mean, I understand for the movie you may not want Cobra Commander to sound "exactly" like the cartoon did, but for crying out loud, there was simply NO there there....
Oh, and of course it was irritating that they made G.I. Joe politically correct. :( No more "Real American Hero". :(
I mean, it's one thing to be a world hero, I'm all for that. But what the heck is wrong with a little pride in ones country, or team etc. as a motivational factor, especially when this IS the best country in the world??? Man you liberals.
I GIVE IT TWO THUMBS UP. GAVE ME MEMORIES OF BEING A KID. I WISH THE CHARACTERS WHERE MORE LIKE THE ORIGINAL GIJOE DOLLS A LITTLE MORE. I WISH COBRA COMANDER HAD HIS ORIGANAL MASK AND I THOUGHT DESTRO WAS THE BOSS,BUT I GIVE IT 4 THUMBS UP.IF U PLAYED WITH GIJOES AS A KID THEN THIS IS A MUST SEE
I'll say one thing good about this film: Although it spoon fed you a lot of BS, it did it quickly! So fast that you had no time to digest the previous helping of BS. IT JUST KEPT COMING!
I like to think that this was a strength in the film because was trying to get you through every ridiculous concept as fast as possible so you can just enjoy the show... but it was still a lame movie
Other reviewers like to say "it's just a fun movie", but I was actually kind of bored during most of the film. Sure it's fast paced but everything seems so pointless and drawn out that you can lose interest quickly. Like this one scene near the end when they're in subs.... I actually had no idea what was happening but I just wanted it to end.
If you have any childhood memories of the G.I. Joe then maybe you'll be met halfway but the other half is just awful. Destro's Scottish accent was annoying, and the Baroness's lack of one made me just a little sad. At first I was interested in Snake Eye and Storm Shadow's story, but It was just so lame.
Cut scene as entertainment. You already have cable TV, right? And it's costing almost $150 a month to keep the "content" coming into your home, so listen to this... Turn on your TV and flip from channel 1 all the way to channel 999 in consecutive order and you get just about the same level of "action" and "excitement." Thank me when you're done or remember me after you spend two hours watching the same effect in the swine flu incubating theater of your choice.
Good movie for action/high speed stunts, pyrotechnics, physical action (strength, hand-to-hand combat(. I thought Dennis Quaids character was a bit of a stretch .... too campy; then again, this is a 'comic character bring-to-life' film. Unlikely hero in Marlon Wayans, but a noticable departure from his usual, buffonish/silly characters. Kids'll think it a good movie. Out of 5 points, 3.5 to 4.
