Well, I liked it. Quite a bit, actually, due to Bill Murray's performance keeping it on track. Without him, it would have been hard to take. I recommend it for people who like cinema not just movies. As far as payoffs go, this one is subtle and thought provoking and you either like that sort of thing or you don't. The other two reviews are accurate; it's not for everyone.

Loved it. It is a small movie with Murray being Murray and Duvall is just a contradiction. It is slow moving, good cinemaphotography, and in the end you are saying, "You mean that's it?" and that is the gist of the whole movie. That a man would make a prison for himself literally and figuratively over something that turns out to not even be his fault. We all do it on so many different levels, I had to ask myself, What is my prison and how can I get the wall down.

Robert Duvall should stop producing movies with scripts that let him play these inarticulate backwoods guys. The problem is that you eventually wind up with a film like this. It had me begging for something to happen and angry at the non-payoff ending. They build up this premise fed by artful flashbacks and then don’t have the good sense to really conclude it. This is no spoiler. I mean the film ends, but I thought it asked an awful lot from the audience. http://timjacksonweb.com
