After reading reviews for this movie particularly on rotten tomatoes I expected it to be a let down. However it was quite the opposite. If this movie was based on a war defending any other faith but the Catholic faith it would have received at least a 90% score. It just shows how biased, anti Catholic and prejudice the media is today. I would advise anyone reading to check this film out. Moving and inspiring and a true story which makes it even more remarkable.

My boyfriend insisted on seeing this since he's part Mexican, but I really wasn't looking forward to it. The only war movie I really ever liked was Lord of the Rings, and that's a fantasy. I know people like movies like "Saving Private Ryan" but I thought that movie was pretty boring and really gory. I don't want to see war like that, it's just too much. This movie tells the story of a war in Mexico but it focuses on the relationships between the characters instead of just the guns used to blow each others' heads off. I didn't know anything about this war until I saw the film and I'm glad now that I did because I've learned a lot, especially since you never hear about this chapter in Mexican or American history. The performances are all really good, especially Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria. It's good to see Latin actors get to play something besides drug lords or sexy sirens.

Good gawd, what a freakin' bore! I mean this one is a downright snoozefest like I haven't seen in a long, looooong time. The last time I remember being so effing bored at a movie was when I actually paid to see "Birth" which was a long snore! This is supposed to be a war movie about a Mexican war that nobody's heard about. I guess it's gonna stay that way because no one will want to see this movie. It's so preachy and sappy that you kind of want to scream at the screen, "Hey, you're at war! WAR!!!" Andy Garcia is a great actor, but even he can't save this one from being a total letdown. I feel like they just cobbled together a bunch of scenes from some college script a bunch of film students made and tried to make it look impressive. It feels like something they'd make for the Hallmark channel when it should be something that Spielberg would want to direct. Even the movies we watch in History class are more interesting than this - skip it!

I really liked this film and I do not recommend seeing it in the theaters. I do not understand why the ratings for this film are so low because i thought it was great. The film was very interesting and the characters were well developed and superbly acted. The film really captivated me and touched my heart and i think most people will find this film to be great. The movie is really sincere and even though it gets pretty bloody i did not mind that. Overall, I think this film is worth seeing in the theaters because it is very interesting.

This movie could have and should have been much, MUCH better than it turned out to be. It's supposed to be a rousing epic about the Cristero War in the 1920s but instead it's just a retread of every generic war movie cliche you've ever seen. It's so predictable and uninvolving, it might as well be a commercial for Taco Bell. No joke.

Andy Garcia is the star, which is nice since he's a vastly underrated actor who doesn't get the starring vehicles he deserves. But he deserves so much better than the role of Enrique Gorostieta, which is just a standard issue movie hero who strives against all odds to do good and save his country and blah blah blah. In 2012, we expect to see movies about real people with real flaws and real internal issues. In this movie, we get none of that. All we get is a movie that plays like a paragraph in a history book instead of a moving, touching story.

For the sake of the real war heroes, I hope another movie about the same subject gets made - and soon. It deserves to be told the right way.

If you need vampires, zombies, car chases, vulgarity that passes for humor, then definitely don't bother w/this film, If you like history, character development, something to think about afterward then by all means see this film. Although this film is long and I often remark on leaving many films that it would have been much better if only 20 min shorter, I did NOT think that this time. Of course,, if you share the Progressive Mantra that a belief in God or religion is a sign of mental deficiency, then again, skip it. If you are amazed by true conviction to faith or just to FREEDOM, then this is for u.

Authentic - Outstanding - Provocative - Riveting - Timely - A must see movie. The cast was Phenomenal! As an avid moviegoer I was totally impressed with the superior quality of content. After the movie, I had a chance to speak with other individuals that saw the movie and was amazed by their response. This was an eye opener for all of us.

I am not a big fan of these kind of movies and I was not a fan of this one so i do not think it is worth seeing in the theaters because it is not worth the price of the ticket. I also thought that this film had a lot of cliches and i really hated that. I did think that the film was very sincere and I always like that but it had too many holes in the script and it was too evident. I am not a fan of historical dramas so i guess i am biased and people who like these types of films will love this movie.

This is a historical drama and not a very good one i have to say. The film is very heavy handed and it almost seemed that the director was at war with his own creation. I found the film was uninvolving and really kind of boring but I guess educational. The film has good intentions but poor execution and it is a sad thing sad thing. The film is also very slow but I did like that it was also very sincere and kind of inspirational. I was not sure about the message of the film though, it was kind of muddled and unclear and that is always a bad thing. Overall, I think this film is better seen at the comfort of your home.

Does anyone know if there are theaters in California playing this movie with Spanish subtitles?
