Duane Johnson, aka The Rock, has spent the last few years making kid friendly films. Well back to your meal ticket, Duane, and here's that gun you used to be so fond of. Faster is what it is, and doesn't pretend to be anything more than a goofy throwback B-level action film.
Driver (yep, that's Johnson's name in the film), gets out of prison for being the (wait for it) driver in a heist. He quickly sets out to dispatch the four guys that killed his brother. Along the way, he's chased by Killer, who is trying to kill him, and Cop, who is trying to catch him. The names of the characters alone should give you an idea that this movie is not going to be Lawrence of Arabia.
Even though it's a lark, the acting is surprisingly good. Billy Bob Thornton brings much more to his role than he should. Johnson isn't bad, but he's not really an actor, and suffers more from the underwritten characters. The action is pretty cool, with Johnson driving around in an awesome car and shooting people. It's a fun diversion while it lasts, and with Thanksgiving this weekend, it's just another high calorie, low nutritional value food.
