Expendables 2 Movie Reviews
User reviews on Expendables 2
Lot's of action fighting, blood, things blowing up and stunts. Everything you would expect from a movie filled with a smorgasbord of action. Story line was weak not a date movie, but overall entertaining.
My wife and I saw this movie this afternoon. It was not the best movie I have ever seen, but it was entertaining.
It was full of action, blood, and guts. I got the feeling these actors were really enjoying themselves making this movie.
Would I pay to go to a theater again to see it? No! But when it comes out at Red Box I will probably rent it.
It was a great way to spend the afternoon out of the heat and the popcorn was very good. :)
I almost can't believe I'm saying this, but I really enjoyed the Expendables sequel! To be fair, it took me back to my youth when I enjoyed the heroic action adventures of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Harrison Ford in the 80s. It was nice to see that Hollywood still thinks that older action men are still capable of playing main lead roles in action movies. I'm frankly tired of pretty boys like Robert Pattinson and Zac Efron. I like my men manly, and this movie has them in spades! My kids also really liked the movie, though they thought parts of it were really corny (confession: some of the corniest parts were my favorites!). I especially liked how the whole gang seemed to genuinely play well off each other and seemed to enjoy working together. Sometimes you can tell that the actors had a blast making the movie and this is definitely one of those cases. I would watch it again in a heart beat!
If you approach this movie with the right mindset, then you absolutely shouldn't mind it for what it is: a corny geezer action hero movie. Does anyone believe that Sly Stallone and Bruce Willis can still kick butt? Um, no, especially since they've both had really bad plastic surgery and are probably on their 180th refill of viagara. But apart from making old timer jokes, this movie is a cheesefest that can still be enjoyed if you take it for the toungue-in-cheek parody that it is. Liam Hemsworth should probably have been the star, but for some reason they gave it to Stallone. Better yet, if they really want to cash in on the whole comic book hero/action man craze that's going on, they should have just remade the original with a younger cast. The best performance in the group goes to Schwarzenegger who is basically playing himself. How can you not love good ol' Arnold? He always knows hot to give just the right (wrong) performance.
First clue that The Expendables 2 is a godawful disaster of a movie? Their leading quote of critical praise from Slashfilm, proudly proclaiming it the “Best Action Film of the Year.” The year in reference is this one – 2012 – which includes movies like The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Hunger Games and, of course, The Avengers. Um, yeah . . . whatever you say.
Second clue that The Expendable 2 is a godawful, terrible, horrible, heinous disaster of a movie is the fact that it purports itself as a classic action tale with classic action heroes . . . with a median age of 64. Really? This is supposed to be the lure that draws the crowds into the movieplex? A cast of 80s actions tars like Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the born-again biological error that is Chuck Norris? If you ask me, the makers would have done much better to take the same cast and make a movie about how these about-to-enter-their-twilight-years seniors-on-the-cusp-of-a-viagara-overdose would be affected by Paul Ryan’s Medicare proposal should it become law. I once saw a Golden Girls episode about the very same. And it was hilarious! And Betty White was in it! And Bea Arthur! And don’t even get me started on Rue and Estelle. Man, those ladies could launch a punchline.
Unfortunately, their geriatric male counterparts in 2012 can’t launch anything (that includes missiles, grenades, and the soft currency in their leather underpants) who are thrown together in a story about . . . how old dudes want to kick ass. Oh, and there’s Liam Hemsworth and Yu Nan thrown in to make things look like they’re young(ish) and diverse(ish). If there were a story, I could tell you what it was. Since there isn’t, here’s the premise: The Expendables are reunited for what is supposed to be a routine excursion of spying, espionage, and murder. Take out the bad guy. Simple enough, right? But then one of them is killed and it’s personal. (I know, how original). Yadda yadda yadda, Stallone mumbles something unintelligible and we get a peek at Old Arnie’s sagging man boobs. And there goes my popcorn.
I wish I knew how to convey just how bad this movie is. It’s basically Battlefield Earth bad. It’s economic crisis of 2008 BAD. It’s like Lindsay Lohan without makeup bad.
Stay away. You’ve been warned.
I did not like this film, actually let me rephrase, i hated this film and do not recommend seeing it in the theaters. This movie was no doubt the stupidest film i have ever seen and I felt that I lost some of my intelligence just by watching it. I mean the cast is kind of awesome but they are all aware how horrible this film is and I felt kind of bad for them all. This film was boring, it had no decent action, it was mind numbingly stupid and very violent with no good reason. The makers of this film should be ashamed of themselves and I hope people will not spend their money to see this “film”.
This film is a complete disaster and I do not recommend seeing it in the theaters because you will be very disappointed. The film is cheesy, ridiculous and not fun to watch at all and I regret that I spent my money and time on this movie. It seemed that everyone involved in this film knew that it is pretty horrible and that was the only fun thing to watch the whole running time. THe film is brutal and incredibly stupid and i felt that my intelligence was insulted by the filmmakers and I hope they feel at least a bit ashamed of their creation. Overall, save your money, time and brain cells and see a different film.
Wow. Just wow. I am at a loss for words for this movie. On the one hand, Expendables 2 is exactly what I thought it would be. On the other hand, there is no other hand. It is an action filled, aging action hero, corny line saying action flick. There were plenty of humorous lines, but it knew how corny it was the whole time. All of the actors in the film knew exactly what movie they were making and really attempted to embrace its ridiculousness. Expendables 2 was significantly better than the first movie. The movie was incredibly bloody and action filled, which will only appeal to men in my opinion. Everything about this movie was ridiculous, but almost in a good way. I liked the movie only for its no-holding-back, and it was worth it.
