Elysium Movie Reviews

I was very surprised at how good this movie was. I'm not a Matt Damon fan. I'm always worried about his politics bleeding into a movie. I definitely thought this was going to be a preachy "99% v. 1% movie, with a bunch of preaching about how evil white people are. Not at all. It was simply a solid, entertaining movie. No preaching and no boredom. Very well done. My wife loved it as well.
A terrible movie. Gosh, what movie did some of you see. The photography was horrendous, the acting was grotesque (Jodie Foster looked old and tired), the plot sucked, and I walked out after the first hour. You could tell that the folks who directed District 9, also directed this flop. Just another video game made into a movie. Nothing unique, boring, predictable ----- a cure for insomnia. The 2013 version of Escape From New York.
Elysium left me feeling older. I think that my forehead was so furrowed during this movie that I actually looked considerably older when I exited during the closing credits.
My brow was the manifestation of what was on my mind:
Why is Jodie Foster talking like that?
Why doesn't Matt Damon bleed more?
How is he healing so quickly?
Why do so many of the people who have been left on Earth look Hispanic?
Why would there be so much interest in going up to Elysium when there's almost no chance of getting there alive?
Why am I so confused by this film?
How is anyone who reads the computer code that is in Matt's head able to understand its purpose sooooo quickly?
Why can't the computer code simply be downloaded as it's read, why must it kill Matt to download it?
How is everyone who reads the code able to figure out that if they do download it, it will kill Matt?
And finally: Why was this movie made?
And in the final moments of the film......the final question was answered: it's a two hour commercial promoting socialized medicine!
Once that answer was revealed so much more became apparent. The quick edits and rabid pace were part of the design so as to get to the message so much sooner than later.
Got it! Skip it!
