Yet another movie about a middle aged woman who is lost. But the crisis she is facing is not a mid-life crisis. This character is forever stuck in the mindset of junior high school. When she finally meets the handsome, age appropriate, self-actualized man near the very end of the movie, she blows it again. (And I'm not talking about a sex scene here; I mean she cannot handle the intimacy of a relationship outside the physical arena.) Although we're made to believe she gives the relationship a try, it is hopelessly unsustainable. We are not talking about a woman of substance, nor do we get to watch a character develop and grow from her experiences. We are talking about a little girl, hiding in a closet, sucking her thumb, and refusing the world. Even a brilliant actress such as Julia Roberts could not give substance to this undeveloped person. To make things worse, she is surrounded by characters who might have something truly interesting to say and explore.

If they could turn off the soundtrack, this would be a visually stunning movie. The scenes of Italy are fabulous (don't allow yourself to get distracted by Die Zauberflote - yes, in German of course - played in the background to let you know you're in Italy!) The wedding scene in India deserved to be fully celebrated as it was one of the most visually pleasing moments in the film. However, the pageantry and costuming are sadly cut short by the one meaningful insight this character experiences. It wasn't worth the exchange.

The Way,The Truth ...and the Life......Just substitute Christianity for the Hinduism and you will enjoy this movie and stop judging others.....Jesus Christ was a perfect example ...True followers of Christ follow his example. BY THEIR FRUITS YOU WILL KNOW THEM...remember...the True Church is a hospital for sinners NOT a country club/resort for the saints

Movie was pretty good. Julia Roberts of course was very good in her role. Movie nakes you stop and think about your life and how you're spending it.

Eat Pray Love, Do Not go to see the movie. We walked out with with about 10 minutes of the movie remaining. That about sums it up. Even my wife thought the movie was terrible. Now officially rated as the 2nd worst movie we have ever seen . Guys if you can talk your better half into having a girls night with her friends, cough up the money, buy the group tickets and spare yourself the pain. :)

Excellent movie!!! I'm going back to see it again. It would have been better if the "Pray" part of the movie centered around Jesus (THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE) instead of the false Hindu god ... but I was able to look at the Hinduism part of the movie in India and think about spending the one on one time with the One and ONLY Savior of the world ... YESHUA/JESUS.

All in all ... I gave this movie five stars because it really spoke to my heart ... and it was so easy to relate to. I'm sure many women have felt the inward struggles that Liz went through in this movie.

I went to see this Muck... I have the book on my must read list, I hope it reads better than the movie was done! There were way too many slow rewinds thru-out story lines, and it was more like dribble than a Woman's or person's personal journey to find her self!
Julia Roberts is a very good actress, but I feel she fell short of the mark by picking this role, it did not inspire me, make me Cry, or want to do a Jig either. So in conclusion, it couldn't been better, a little less piecemeal, and 30 minutes shorter! Just another critic looking for her $$ worth @ the movies, not The Meaning Of Life, I already know that!

I loved the book and the movie brought Liz's outward and inward journey pleasantly back to me again. I went with about five women and we all absolutely loved it. I have talked to several other friends that have seen it and they say the same thing. It appears to me that many critical reviewers never read the book. Why complain about the way a persons true story happened? It is what it is.
