I think that this film is alright but it could have been so much better. I was expecting a lot from this movie because it is attached to Guillermo del Toro’s name and I absolutely love his work, I think he is brilliant. However, the film is disappointing because it fails to scare and it ha way too many inconsistancies and error in the script. The first part of the film is actually really good and I was excited to see what is coming up, unfortunately the second half of the film dragged and lost the tension. I also thought that the monsters were not up to par and that is just sad considering that Guillermo del Toro wrote the screenplay.
The screenplay was written by Guillermo del Toro and it is evident throughout the film. He is excellent in creating a certain atmosphere in his films, it is an atmosphere of fear, luring danger and mystery. Toro did not direct this film and I wish he had because I think that it would have been much better. The tension is nicely built up during the first part of the film but it falls flat in the end. I was disappointed with the monsters, I was expecting something more imaginatetive and scary, but they were not scary at all. The movie had too many details that did not go well together and there were way too many holes in the script. Overall, I think that this film is not worth the price of the movie ticket.
I think this film can only scare teenagers and I think it was precisely made for them. I expected much more from this film because it was produced by Guillermo Del Toro and I absolutely loved “Pan’s Labyrinth”. However, this film was nothing like Toro’s previous creation, it was not as imaginative or interesting. Guy Pierce is not very good in his role as a father and Katie Holmes was alright, i honestly never liked her so I am biased. The biggest problem in this film was the voices of the creatures, it did not match the appearance and it did not make sense.
This is a horror film directed by Troy Nixey and starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison. The film was alright, i expected much more out of it but it did not deliver. The monsters in the film were not scary and not interesting at all, and that is not good news for a horror film. I was actually more annoyed by the creatures more than I was scared of them, this film can not even be compared to “Pan’s Labyrinth”. the characters in the film are not fully developed and during the film they do not develop either, that leaves the audience indifferent to the faith of the characters. Overall, I think this film is not worth seeing in the theaters.
