This is an excellent movie by all accounts. The writing, acting, and direction are all top notch. And the story is something you definitely don't see much of in the standard Hollywood drama: an immigrant doctor from Africa is charged with saving the life of a young Manhattan boy whose parents are a powerful and rich couple. The boy is saved from multiple forms of brain cancer but when the authorities ask him about how he managed to pull off such a miraculous feat, he refuses to disclose his secret. He is jailed for malpractice but then, lo, as luck would have it he develops a brain tumor himself and is told he just has weeks to live. It sounds melodramatic but it's really not. It's told with such restraint and detail that you kind of feel like you're watching a doc**entary about cancer and Africa and ancient forms of medicine. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
