This is a comedy about Jeff and Nealy Lang (Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks) have an idyllic suburban home but their relationship is on the rocks. When a family of hungry raccoons ransacks their perfect backyard, Jeff becomes single-mindedly obsessed with eradicating the pests by any means necessary. The raccoons not only destroy Jeff’s and Nealy’s lawn but also make a mess out of their “perfect” life. I thought this film was quite good and interesting and I recommend seeing it in the theaters. I liked that the film examined the theme of karma pretty deeply and did not become a cozy little comedy. I imagine that the film will not do great in the theaters because of that but I praise the filmmakers for their integrity. I found the film to be quite tense and darkly funny and I loved the cast of this film, they all did a terrific job with their roles. Overall, I had a great time watching this dark comedy. -
Why? That’s the only thing I can think of while watching No Strings Attached. I expected Ashton Kutcher to be in another romantic comedy but I really wanted more from Natalie Portman. The two play friends who found each other after years of not seeing each other. They become close friends again and Portman’s character pushes for a friends with benefits type situation. I was a little thrown off because it is usually the guy in these situations who pushes for more than just friends. The movie was very lightweight and didn’t put too much pressure on my emotions, which was quite nice. The movie was also very predictable, but I guess I shouldn’t be expecting The Usual Suspects esque twist. I also thought the movie was not sexy enough, especially since it is about sex with friends. The two main actors did not have enough chemistry for me to believe their sex scenes, it just felt awkward. I will have to give this movie a bad rating.
