Okay, I'm a total science fiction geek and love any and all movies and tv shows about aliens and extraterrestrial invasions, but this one sounds a lot better in theory than it does appear on screen. I was disappointed that this movie didn't go exactly where I thought it would go - it could have been so much more if it just dared to be a little bit innovatory. The movie is about a mother played by Keri Russell whose family is under attack from a group of aliens that wants to inhabit her children's bodies. It has a great premise but the movie finally ends up feeling like an episode of X-Files or the Twilight Zone. It has enough mystery to keep you engaged up to a point, but after that it doesn't offer anything substantial to deliver on that promise. It's probably best for those who believe in aliens than for those who want to see an entertaining movie about aliens. I think they should turn this into a TV series or just do a proper feature remake.
I am not a big fan of scary films and I do not go to see them in the theaters, however my boyfriend really enjoys watching these films and as a good girlfriend I agreed to see it with him. I thought the film was alright for what it was and I guess if you enjoy scary films this one will do just fine. I think that the film was nicely made and the story was quite good, however I did not think the acting was up to par, I did not feel that the lead actors were invested in this film. The film was pretty scary and I definitely felt the suspense that the director was going for. Overall, like i said before, i do not like scary films but i thought this film was okay and it might be worth seeing on the big screen.
So I am definitely one of those people who love scary films, I have no idea why but I find these films to be very entertaining. I thought this one was pretty good, my expectations were not too high before seeing it so I guess I was pleasantly surprised when the film turned out to be enjoyable. The film was nicely shot and edited, the acting was alright, I did not really believe the parent-child relationship in the film and that is mainly because of Keri Russell and Josh Hamilton. I thought that the film was quite chilling and I was genuinely scared couple of times. Overall, if you enjoy watching scary films you will definitely like this one, therefore I recommend seeing it in the theaters.
Hmmm, I dunno what the reviewer below is complaining about. Okay, this isn't the best movie ever made, but it's pretty decent as far as Hollywood horror films that don't release in Halloween are concerned. It's an interesting concept that involves aliens, something that few movies are about anymore (unless they're animated comedies). Keri Russell plays a mom who has four kids and her family is being terrorized by aliens. The aliens want to inhabit the children, it seems, so that they can unleash their intergalactic and extraterrestrial evil upon humanity. The parents must do what they can to protect them. This is basically a story about what parents will do to keep their kids safe, even when they don't understand what is harming their children or if the authorities do not believe them. It's a decent flick and should be watched by all fans of Keri Russell and the book.
I know that 2013 is only seven weeks old, but I'm going to go out on a limb and claim that Dark Skies is going to win all the Razzies this year. It is just the WORST movie I have seen in years...and I have seen every Adam Sandler movie since "Spanglish"! The acting in this movie is just atrocious. We're supposed to believe that the characters are all scared out of their wits but really they just seem constipated. The story is as old as the hills and doesn't even bear repeating. You know what's coming five minutes in. As for Keri Rusell, what is she doing in this tripe? She's a talented actress- remember her on Felicity? And Waitress? She was superb in those projects. But in this one she is either bored out of her mind or lost all her acting skills because she seems to just sleepwalk her way through the movie. This is not a thriller or scary - it's just a loud and unbearable thud!
