If you are reading this, take my advice, save yourself the disappointment and skip Dark Shadows, see another movie. Although the Tim Burtonesk visuals are worth mentioning and possibly the only stimulating part of the film, they do not save it. I am sure the original plot had potential but in the translation to the silver screen it failed miserably. There was no coherence, too many characters and subplots and very little sense of depth. Johnny Depp's performance was less than one has come to expect from such an esteemed and talented actor. It really was a filmmaking waste of time, effort, celluloid and money.

I think that Johnny Depp has grown as an actor and he does not mind taking racey or over the top roles. The movie was a blast and I loved the fact that a love story imbedded. My wife and I loved it.

I think that pretty much everyone's favorite actor on the planet is Johnny Depp. He has soooo many great characters and performances on his resume that it would be pointless to even try and list them. I loved him in Dark Shadows and I think he makes the movie as good as it is. Yes, it could have been better, but every movie has room for improvement and I think Depp really carries this one on his shoulders. He is weird and funny and cute and strange all at once as the vampire who returns from the dead to see what has become of his home and his family. Only Depp could play this character in a way that makes you like him without it going over the top. Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter are also really good in it, as are the young kids. I think the movie would have been better suited to a Halloween release, but oh well, it will probably be a popular costume this year. JD rocks!

Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors - if not my all time favorite - so even if this movie was total crap I'd still give it two stars just for Johnny. Tim Burton teams up again with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter for a movie that's quite strange but still enjoyable.
Johnny Depp plays a vampire who is cursed by a woman who loves him but he doesn't love back. He goes into hibernation for a couple centuries and then wakes up one day to find his once powerful family reduced to a shadow of its former self. He tries to right the wrongs of the family by getting them to rediscover what made them great, but it's hard for him since he's new to the world they live in.
The movie is pretty campy and fun, though it's not one of Burton's better movies. It feels kinda soap opera-y but it doesn't take itself that seriously which makes it watchable. If you like Johnny Depp, this one's for you!

OH MY GOSH. This movie was terrible (for the rating of PG-13). The main reason is that there are explicit and long scenes of Barnabas and Angelique doing you know what. IT SHOULD BE RATED R. ALSO, it should be put in the drama and romance section, because it has a LOT of it. HORRIBLE!
My friend and I (both 13 years old), plus my 11 year old brother and my friend's mom, watched it an felt VERY UNCOMFORTABLE that we left during the middle of the film. IT WAS EMBARRASING! Thank you for your time, and we hope you are atLEAST 18 years old to watch.

I had really high hopes for this film but it was pretty disappointing and i do not think it is worth seeing in the theaters. The film was not really coherent and even though it looked beautiful visually and Tim Burton always delivers on that end, the film did not click and I was not impressed. I can tell that the cast had a blast filming this movie and Johnny Depp did a great job with the role and he was entertaining and weird. If you are a fan of original “Dark Shadows” I do not recommend seeing this film because you will not like it and end up being disappointed.

I was so disappointed in this movie, I watched the midnight premiere and there's not a part where it actually had my attention, the fried pickles I was eating were more interesting to me. My friend and I are huge fans of Burton's work and the trio of Johnny, Helena and Tim, I used to watch Sweeney Todd every Sunday, I feel in love every time. Sadly, Tim has been slacking my interest lately, even with Alice In Wonderland. Hopefully Frankenweenie is better than both of his past 2 movies. There were possibly only three good laughs in this movie.

Tim Burton's films have always had a sense of melodrama, so it's not a surprise that he was a fan of the 1960s TV show "Dark Shadows", something like a vampire soap opera. Burton casts his favorite actor, Johnny Depp, in the part of Barnabas Collins, and we get the usual from these collaborators: Depp delivers an imminently watchable performance, and Burton gives us a lot of style without really giving us a lot of story. The film starts in the late 1700s, when Barnabas spurns the advances of witch Angelique, who turns Barnabas into a vampire, has him buried, and kills his love. Fast forward to the 1970s, and Barnabas is released from his coffin to find his family fortunes down and his manor in disrepair. He goes about trying to resurrect the business and trying to thwart Angelique, who's still around. Barnabas is a great character, a 1700s gentleman trying to live in the much less formal time. Watching Depp react to things like lava lamps and hippies is funny. It's the rest of the film that isn't so great. Burton starts off the film on such a high note, then doesn't seem to know what to do with it. Of course, it's visually stunning, but come on, you've done movies like "Edward Scissorhands", you know how to tell a story. The rest of the cast goes from over the top to way too staid. With a main character so sedate, it would have been nice to see some variation. But hey, this is a Tim Burton film, so you'll get what you normally get these days: a wonderful Depp performance, so great visuals and a story that inevitably falls flat.

I was really hoping this film is going to be amazing and I was a bit disappointed. Maybe I went in with expectations that were too high but I have a certain standart for Burton’s films and this movie did not fulfill those standarts. The film was very slow in the beginning and I felt that the film was not very cohesive. I still loved Johnny Depp because he is very in his element and his acting is wonderful as usual and I still loved beautifully weird visuals especially because i saw the film in IMAX 3D but I think the film lacked energy and overall I was bored. It is sad for me to say but I think the film was not that great and I expected more from Tim Burton.
