My boys begged me to let them watch all three movies in the trilogy vieweing because they are twins and it was their birthday (and they were too young to see the earlier movies in the theater when they came out) so I relented and said okay. To be honest, I couldn't stomach 8 hours of Christian Bale (who I think is an overrated actor) but the movie does have some interesting performances from other characters. I really liked Liam Neeson in the first one and of course Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart in the second one. The women in the last one were the ones I really liked and they lit up the screen with their smiles. Both Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard are incredibly talented and beautiful actresses. I think the action sequences in the last movie were kind of confusing, but I guess they threw them in just to keep the crowds happy. I know my boys liked those parts the best.
This one's for the truest of true Batman fans, the true blue diehard devotees who know that the story is so much more than just a comic book adventure. There are so many special elements and layered details in the movie that I just never picked up before. Watching the movies back to back to back really showed me what I had missed in earlier viewings (and believe me, I have watched them plenty of times). For example, I think that The Joker was really demented in a totally psychopathic way. He didn't just want to beat Batman so that he could be on top. He was really twisted inside and saw the world in a way that is truly bizarre. The way he almost flirts with Batman makes me squirm on the inside with glee. It's such a great performance. As for the final part, I won't give away much except to say that my jaw dropped after I saw it and I still haven't been able to close my mouth. This one is historic!
Do you have 8 hours to kill? Or 8 hours to bask in the glorious mastery of Christopher Nolan? I guess it all depends on how you look at it, but watching a grown man fight crime in a batsuit can be downright dumb to some people and absolutely thrilling to comic book nerds like me. I went to the trilogy viewing and let me tell you it was PACKED. People came dressed up as Batman, Robin, Catwoman, The Joker, and even Commissioner Gordon. Something about this story just unites people and fans in a way that other movies don't. I don't even think other popular movies like The Avengers or The Amazing Spider-Man will be inspiring people like this one. This story just resonates at a whole other level. A word to the wise: if you do see the trilogy, plan on packing a lot of food and water because you'll need it. These movies are so thrilling they really build up your appetite!
