Worth seeing for the Oscar worthy performance of Jeff Bridges and the fantastic sound track. Otherwise, the story is average and predictable. Maggie Guyllenhaal's Oscar nomination (I'm not a fan) is somewhat perplexing, as is her character who falls in love for drunkard Bad Blake in about 10 minutes. Makes no sense.
This movie has an excellent story and a very different story line.
It keeps your whole attention at all times. Jeff Bridges is
super in the part and the supporting cast was also very good.
He does deserve the awards he is receiving for this movie.
I recommend this movie to those who want to see a good
I am a die hard Jeff Bridges fan, but the story here was just too far fetched, especially the romance. Tell me what a thirty something, nice looking woman sees in a crusty, sweaty, old drunk? This movie is also not for the light of heart so take your anti-depressants with you. My advice, go see Sherlock Holmes or The Book of Eli.
A good slice-of-life film. Bad Blake is a washed up has-been of a country singer whose legacy is the immensely popular Tommy Sweet, a younger performer who owes everything to his mentor. Blake can't bring himself to discuss Tommy, but is clearly proud of his protegé. The film is a realistic look at what happens to a man who realizes what the consequences are of his slide into alcoholism. It has a message of realistic hope without miracles.
Love Jeff Bridges so I enjoyed watching him but this movie will not appeal to everyone. When Bad Blake isn't passed out in his sweaty bed; the vomiting, greasy hair and armpit shots almost make you think that you can smell him. Just have to wonder what makes people throw their lives away. The sound track is great.
Loved the poster for the movie though. $25 online.
