Most country songs are pretty simple. Your girlfriend leaves you, your dog dies, you lose your job, you fall in love, you drive your truck, you drink a lot. The lyrics paint broad strokes that leave little to interpretation. They are filled with cliche and stock characters. Funny that Country Strong, a movie about country singers going through a lot of the same problems they sing about in their songs, follows this same path.
Gwyneth Paltrow plays a faded country singer who is sprung from rehab by her manager husband for a comeback tour. She brings along the guitar playing rehab staffer she's been banging as her opening act, and shares the stage with an up and coming country star who bares a little resemblance to a real up and coming starlet.
Let's get this out of the way right now: Paltrow can sing. Usually, she can act, but it's hard when the screenplay you're working from is this horribly written. Director Shana Feste traffics in sketches of people, dialogue that SOUNDS like it was written, and situations that are tired and worn out. The acting is fine, but there's only so much you can do with a horrible script. The actors do their best, but when dealing with treacle like this, it's hard to do anything. All that's missing is the dead dog.

Country Strong is a film that had a local release first and because of its popularity just had a national release. Starring Gwyneth Paltro, Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester, Country Strong is a drama about a fast rising country music songwriter who falls in love with a dying star, Gwyneth Paltro. Together, they work to bring his career to its pinnacle while at the same time trying to revive hers. This plan leads to some complications and a very interesting story line. I never knew Gwyneth Paltro could sing, but she has a serious voice! I did some research on the Internet and found a video of Gwyneth Paltro on the show Glee and she had an amazing voice there as well. This movie was great. The love story between the two main characters was believable and Gwyneth Paltro did an amazing job acting. The movie was the perfect length and flowed very well. The music was great and very entertaining. This is definitely a movie I recommend for a date or even for a family night.

“Country Strong” by Shana Feste is about a country singer trying to redeem her career. Starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Leighton Meester, Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund,Kayla Perkins this film is bound to be a big hit. I did not like this film at all. The story is unoriginal and the director did not even try to make it interesting. The whole movie was like one big soap opera with ridiculous love stories and bad dialogue. However, I can not deny that the acting was good. Gwyneth Paltrow is an amazing actress and she can shine in any movie. Also the girl can sing her butt off! I never knew that she can sing like that. Tim McGraw was great as well, in my opinion it is his best performance yet. Leighton Meester was plain annoying but I guess her acting was O.K. Overall, I did not like the movie but my girlfriend loved it and wants to see it again. So I am labeling this as a chick flick and moving on.

This is a movie about a country singer Kelly Canter (Gwyneth Paltrow) who is trying to salvage her career that she ruined by drug and alcohol abuse. The plot of the movie is pretty predictable but nonetheless enjoyable. Gwyneth Paltrow is excellent as always, she plays the role effortlessly, and the girl can sing! I always admired Gwyneth as an actress but she could easily have a singing career if she wanted to. I don’t like country music at all, but her voice captivated me. In my opinion without Gwyneth the movie would not be memorable. I was also surprised by Tim McGraw who plays Kelly’s husband-manager. It is not easy to play opposite of Gwyneth Paltrow but he pulled through beautifully and in my opinion it is his best on-screen performance yet. I really liked the storyline, event though it was done many times before, it felt fresh and interesting. I definitely recomend seeing this movie if not for the acting then for beautiful singing.
